Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher Are My Role Models for a Strong, Christian Marriage

TAGS: , ,

When it comes to marriage in the celebrity world, I feel that Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher’s union is ‘role model’ material.

Underwood is not only beautiful, but she is an amazing country singer who glorifies God in many of her songs. The fourth American Idol winner, Underwood has won many awards and is never afraid to thank God for her blessings.  Already a strong Christian, she married an even stronger Christian, Mike Fisher, a professional hockey player.

Underwood told People magazine in 2010 that Fisher “improved [her] walk with God.” What a wonderful blessing!

Fisher just recently released his book, “Defender of the Faith: The Mike Fisher Story,” which describes how he puts “his faith in Christ first and has demonstrated his love for God both on and off the ice.”

Keep God in the center at all times because if He’s in the center of everything, everything else just falls into place. And it doesn’t mean it’s easy but He helps you along the way. - Mike Fisher on Tasteofcountry.com

Underwood and Fisher are also careful to respect their marriage when making decisions in their careers. In a music video for the duet, “Remind me,” Carrie and Brad Paisley play the parts of a married couple who look back to a time when they were more loving. Carrie explains to Extra, “We had to go very delicate, because obviously we’re both separately married to other people.” The idea that both she and Paisley put their marriage and respect for their spouses ahead of their career is so refreshing.

Two extremely attractive and successful celebrities, devoted to God and glorifying His name, come together in marriage! Wow! How can we as Christians not applaud them and look to them for inspiration?

I think that Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are a fantastic example of how a couple can remain true to their faith and each other, even as highly successful celebrities. Although Christianity is often ridiculed in Hollywood, this couple is not afraid to praise God openly. Their marriage is a great example of why young Christian girls should wait for the right Christian man to marry. It’s so much easier to glorify God when you have a spouse who shares the same values.

The Underwood and Fisher union has been an inspiration for me and my husband and so I offer this prayer in return.

Lord God, bless Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher’s marriage. Let their union last a lifetime, as all marriage should, full of love and respect, even in challenging times.  Bless them abundantly and let them always strive to instill Christian values in their fans. Hold them close always and keep them ever mindful of each other’s needs and ambitions while they continue to place You in the forefront of their lives.

Keep them ever loving and faithful to each other, especially in an industry that lacks morals and promotes sinful behavior. Let their marriage and life together be an inspiration to others. And Lord, continue to strengthen their faith as they improve their walk with You. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. i was about to say that im so out of the loop i didnt even know she was married, but now that i think about it, i might have heard something about it. anyway, its so awesome to see people who truly waited for the One God had in store for them, and who are such great role models since that is so rare nowadays. God bless them both!

    • Just the fact that you didn’t know she was married shoes how anazing that she isn’t a normal celebrity. EVERYONE knew when Kim Kardashian got married.. And Carrie has said that she cleans her own house and does the grocery shopping! She has to be THE best celebrity everr.! I love her version of “How Great Thou Art” simply amazing.

A lot of celebrities clean their own houses and get their own groceries.

  2. Awesome.

  3. I’ve always loved them! What a great and God-glorifying couple! :)

  4. I agree!

  5. I think Kirk Cameron is a great example as well. When he acted in the movie Fireproof (which is a great movie, btw) he had his wife silhouetted in when he was supposed to kiss the actress. He refuses to kiss any other woman except his own. :) Thank you, T.M. Gaouette!

  6. I’ve always loved Carrie and I’m so happy that she has found a man that loves Jesus as much as she does. I think it’s super adorable that they inspire one another and respect each other’s faith. I wish them the very best, forever and always.
That was such a beautiful prayer at the end T.M.

Thank you. I feel very strongly about this couple and truly desire that their love continue on and forever. That’s not easy, even for a non-celebrity.

  7. I like this a lot! I pray for my marriage everyday as well, even though I’m not married!

  8. I didn’t even know she was married, but I always thought she was an amazing singer!

  9. I have ALWAYS loved Carrie for her strong faith in God. It’s glad to see a “hollywood” couple who is glorifying God in all that they do. :) what a relief.

  10. This is a great couple! They are so loved by many people and if they have a good Christian marriage, then many will want to do the same! I like the prayer by the way!

  11. I love this!!! They are an inspiration to me to wait for the right Christian guy to come along and bring me closer to God. But right now I’m not looking for a boyfriend I think I will just wait for God to bring the right guy along:)

Right now you focus on you and glorifying God. He has already picked the man for you and the time when you will meet him. God bless you.

  12. i love carrie underwood, and this is awesome

  13. This is so encouraging! It’s great that she has a husband who brings her closer to God; and I think that we should be looking for the same thing! Instead of finding a “fixer-up-er”, the person that we will be the closest to should be someone who we can depend on for encouragement when we need it, and the same values that we have.

  14. While I love Carrie and Mike, I’m not thrilled with how every time Carrie’s asked about kids she always responds with ‘not yet’, or something along those lines- because of her career. Plenty of country singers have kids- look at Faith Hill and Martina McBride. If you’re ready for marrige, that’s supposed to mean you’re ready for a family- that is the purpose of Christian marrige. Although I have no doubt if they were blessed with a baby soon they’d be great parents :)

Don’t be discouraged with this. Marriage, career and children all have their place. When they are ready, they will have children. She is displaying a responsible attitude.

      • Personally, I find it a selfish attitude, not a responsible attitude, coming from them-they’re 30 years old with no financial or (as far as I know) medical problems. The only reason from what I’ve heard is they don’t want kids is because it would mean altering their current lifestyle…no more one of them touring the country while the other plays hockey in another place. I guess it’s responsible in the sense of this way their baby wouldn’t be raised by a nanny while they’re gone…but still, marrige and family require sacrifice, and they don’t seem to want to make any sacrifices there. But still, I do admire them :D

why are you pushing them to have kids? If they don’t want to have kids, I see absolutely no reason for them to have any.

    • Project Inspired Member

That’s not true. Just because someone gets married doesn’t mean they want kids. Just because other people can handle career and kids doesn’t mean everyone can. I think she’s SMART that she knows she isn’t ready for a kid yet. Can’t they just enjoy each other’s company for a little? My younger brother got married at 22 and his wife was 19 – now they’re 24 and 21. They aren’t in a hurry to have kids – they have time. It’s HER life – HER career – not yours.

Also Kate how is it “selfish” of them to choose THEIR life? They don’t want a baby yet. Leave them alone. You are being awfully rude about someone else’s life. It’s not affecting you is it? This is the problem with our celebrity obsessed culture. We think we’re a part of their lives. We’re not.

  15. I love them! Yes, they are a great example! Wow, I never knew about his book, I’d love to check it out! Thanks!! :)

  16. This is truly inspiring! I’m sure God will bless them for following Him! I loved you’re prayer at the end, by the way; it was so sweet! :D

  17. I love that my Aunt says to her husband all the time, “I love you, but I love Jesus more!!” She’s totally my role model in life. <3

  18. 2 thumps up for the for famous people like these, who aint afraid to stand up for what they believe in! :)

  19. Jason Castro and Mandy!!! They are so cute and happy and loving!!! :)

  20. They are soooo cute together. God bless them.

I have always looked to Carrie underwood as a great Christian influence in the industry; however, while defending her, I had someone point out her songs like “Before He Cheats” and “Last Name”. I feel those songs do not portray or exemplify a Christian influence. The lyrics in “Last Name” suggest that she goes to a club and ends up waking up hitched to some random dude who called her “baby”. Explain please? I get confused. I feel like if you are a true Christian, singing that as a major hit let alone it being on your album should really bother you…
Aside from that, I do think they are just precious. <3 (; I will definitely remember to throw a prayer out for them every now and then. God Bless. (:

  23. hello! it would be nice if you can do an article on shannon stewart from ANTM. i really admire her for not posing nude and marrying a fellow Christian=)

    • Project Inspired Member

Is she the girl who wouldn’t pose in lingerie but posed in bikinis? That girl is ridiculous. How is a bikini any better than lingerie? I am glad she has values with no nudity but c’mon. The lingerie is only for her husband but some of those bikinis showed WAAAY more than lingerie and she wore them.

I love her and her music she is one of my role model!!

Carrie Underwood is a true woman. She’s an excellent role model for any girl, considering she grocery shops herself instead of hiring someone to do it for her and has a strong, God-centered marriage. I’d like to see other marriages in Hollywood that resemble if not exceed the total trust they have in God. Amazing couple. They’re doing good things for the Lord.

    this is awesome.
