Girl to Girl Talk: How to Avoid Temptation and Wait on God's

Be advised: This week’s material is for more mature teens.

Every week I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and council. I want to help answer some of your questions about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions.

This week’s question comes from a couple of girls asking about sexual purity, lustful thoughts and other issues like masturbation and sex:

I don’t want to offend anybody. I am virgin, but i don’t see why sex is supposed to be so special. I know that marriage thing but WHY is it so special we should wait? I am just very confused.

(Click to read the full post)

I heard that it is wrong to masturbate if you are a Christian. Is this true? Just curious.

(Click to read the full post)

These are some great questions, and the answers can be difficult to figure out as a teen because of the sexualized culture we live in. With films, music, movies and the media telling young people that premarital sex is the norm, how can a Christian girl remain pure until her wedding day? How can a young person go against the strong current of the world we live in?

So if your eye–even your good eye–causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell (Matthew 5:29).

First of all, if you have sexual feelings for someone, it’s not abnormal. It’s human nature. We all will most likely experience love, temptation and the natural feelings that come with that. The Bible talks about love and passion in the Song of Solomon, and we also know that God created sex for marriage. The issue with our culture is that the world will tell you that you can be with whoever you want for however long you want with no commitment required.

God wants the BEST for you, and He designed you to be sexually pure for ONE person who you could spend the rest of your life with. Granted, you may have fallen or may feel unworthy of marriage if you have messed up in that area, but God sees your heart. There is forgiveness!

Purity and marriage are the best choices because you are in God’s will. God loves marriage. He designed it and wants to bless it. This doesn’t mean you won’t have to sacrifice or work hard at it, but it will be rewarding. Just like with anything else you have to work on, the outcome will be better than if you did it the world’s way. Why?

First, when you are pure, you aren’t at risk for pregnancy outside of marriage, which can be hard on a teen who may not be ready for the responsibilities of adulthood and parenting. Secondly, you avoid catching sexually transmitted diseases. Thirdly, you are waiting on God for His best because you trust in Him and are waiting for a man of God who will respect you and honor you. (See singer Joel of for KING & COUNTRY discuss this in his video on respect and honor!)

Why is waiting to have sex a better option than sleeping with your boyfriend?

The world won’t tell you how much heartbreak and emotional damage it causes once the relationship is over or when the pleasure ends. There is a war for your soul, your purity and your integrity (Ephesians 6:12). We have to stand up as women of God and be different. God wants to bless you, not torture you. Even though at times you may feel like it is hard or that there is so much peer pressure, remember, you are different as a follower of Christ and a representative of God. God even tells us to not conform to the patterns of the world but to be transformed by renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

When you are ready for a lifelong commitment of serving your spouse in marriage and God has brought a man of God into your life, you are mature enough to handle the responsibilities of sex within the confinements of marriage, which God wants you to have and enjoy.

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth (Proverbs 5:18).

Regarding the question about masturbation, let’s look at some scriptures to see what God’s Word tells us about holiness and purity. We know that the Bible doesn’t specifically use the word “masturbation,” but there are many scriptures on lust, adultery and purity. When it comes to sexual temptation, you should ask yourself, “Is this harming my relationship with the Lord or is this not affecting my walk with God?” Ask God and He will surely tell you!

Who may ascend to the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? [She] who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up [her] soul to an idol or swear by what is false (Psalm 24: 3-4).

The Bible warns us to take our thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and that if a man looks at a woman with lust, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:28). God takes purity very seriously, and if you love the Lord and have reverence for Him, consider your thoughts and examine your heart. This doesn’t mean you will be perfect or will never face temptation; there is a constant battle for our attention, even in movies, television and media.

My advice is to guard your heart and mind, ask God for help, pray, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). No one has to give an account to God but you. Your mom, your friends, your boyfriend or your ex-boyfriend won’t stand in for you–you yourself will have to stand before God one day.

So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God (Romans 14:12).

Girls, if you still have questions or are struggling, I recommend a pair of great books, written for males and females individually, called Every Young Man’s Battle and Every Young Woman’s Battle by Shannon Ethridge and Stephen Arterburn. These books have a Christian worldview of how to remain set apart for the Lord and how to overcome the natural struggles teens face. They are available at Barnes & Noble and Family Christian stores.

I pray that this article will help you, girls. Comment below if you have further questions!

I’m Loving This: Chris Tomlin’s New Album “Burning Lights”'s

Chris Tomlin, a very well-known and humble worship leader, recently released his latest album, “Burning Lights.” Tomlin has been awarded 16 Dove Awards, has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, and has been on the top of the charts for his amazing songs. In fact, his new album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart!

Burning Lights debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. With more than 72,000 units sold, Burning Lights marks Tomlin’s first trip to the top of the Billboard 200 and only the fourth time in history that a Christian music album has entered that chart at No. 1.

Burning Lights is only the fourth Christian album to ever hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Eye on It became the third just last year — and the first in 15 years (Billboard).

Some of the great songs off Tomlin’s latest album include “Crown Him (Majesty)” featuring Kari Jobe, “God’s Great Dance Floor,” “Awake My Soul” featuring Lecrae, “Jesus, Son of God” featuring Christy Nockels, “Shepherd Boy,” “White Flag” and more!

Listen to “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies),” one of the first singles Tomlin released:

“Awake My Soul” featuring Lecrae is one of my favorite songs! Here are some of the lyrics:

Awake, awake, awake my soul,
God resurrect these bones

From death to life, for you alone
, Awake my soul
Lecrae: “Then He said to me,
’Prophesy to these bones and say to them,

Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!
’ “
This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones,
I will make breath into you,

And you will come to life…
Yeah, I’m not alone, I realize
I breathe out, I come alive
Your word gives life to my dry bones
Your breath tells death it can ride on
Awake me, make me- a living stone,
A testament to your throne,
I-I’m nothing without you, I’m on my own
The only one who satisfies my soul…

PI readers, do you have a favorite song from Tomlin’s new album? Comment below! We love hearing from you!

Girl to Girl Talk: How Do I Overcome Fear?'s

Every week I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and council. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian walk of faith and any miscellaneous topics! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions and become bold in your faith. We love you, PI readers!

Check out more Girl Talk.

Here’s a question from a girl who commented on a post regarding fear and anxiety.

She shares: “Tonight after praying, before I went to bed, I was dealing with a certain anxious fear earlier and started to shake a bit. Does anyone feel that way? As I prayed tonight, I’ve got to let go and let God be in control. Because He is! He knew I was dealing with this, and before I prayed He led me into a word I really had needed to be reminded of in Chap. Isaiah 41. It had talked nothing but GOD BEING OUR STRENGTH and He will HELP US!
I give all glory to God because He was right there when I needed him. Love all you sisters! Hope this may encourage you

I feel that most people have dealt with some kind of fear or uncertainty in their lives. But we know, according to the Word of God, that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.

My aunt used to read the below scripture to me when I would get scared; she would tell me (and I paraphrase) “God has not given us the spirit of fear, that is of the enemy.” God is for you, He is LOVE and He doesn’t want you to worry about your life. Of course, we all have uncertainties and face doubt about our futures, but ultimately we know God is our strength and He does help us out!

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? (Matthew 6:25).

The Lord also tells us to not be anxious but instead to pray! When we do that, the Lord tells us we will experience His supernatural peace that goes beyond our understanding! Isn’t this reassuring and a great exchange? God loves you and doesn’t want you to stress, be fearful, nervous or worried! He is your heavenly Dad and wants you to know He will take care of you! If He takes care of the birds, the flowers and the grass, won’t He provide for you and be with YOU? AMEN!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6).

We all have had our doubts, fears, questions and uncertainties about the future. I personally struggled with the questions of “Will I finish my degree?” “Will I be successful?“Will I be able to serve God like He desires me to?”When will I marry?” The truth is Jesus knows every day of our life and He is the author and perfecter of our faith!  We just need to believe, do our best and ask the Holy Spirit to give us the comfort and strength we need each day. It is human nature to ask questions and sometimes worry. But we can OVERCOME fear and worry with the Bible and the Holy Word of God.

Can you relate, PI readers?  When in doubt, or when fear arises, think about Philippians 4:6 and John 16.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

Take our poll about fear and comment below if you have a prayer request! God bless you and may you overcome fear, doubt and worry!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed by fear?

The Busy Girl’s Guide to Getting Motivated and Organized!'s

The month of January often means new beginnings, opportunities and memories! However, the excitement you initially felt at starting up school again and returning to all of our social engagements, relationships and studies can sometimes start to feel like nervousness and stress after a few weeks. Is this happening to you? If so, here are some tips to give you a boost in staying motivated and organized!

Tips to help you get motivated:

  • Find inspiring quotes on success, inspiration, and goals.

For example:

There is no success without sacrifice

Quotes are uplifting, and great reminders to keep going. Place one on your mirror, wall, dresser or binder!

  • Ask someone in your life who you admire to talk with you about his or her goals and how he or she achieved success.
  • Listen to a song that encourages you and write down your DREAMS, GOALS, and ASPIRATIONS for the year. Think realistically. If you’re really motivated, you can make a timeline for goal achievement.

Music always inspires me, especially Christian music. Listen to something that helps you focus on getting excited for the year and what you want to accomplish. I love Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel.” That’s my goal is for the year–for him to take the lead in my life!

Tips to help you get organized:

  • Purchase your school supplies in advance.

It may seem like common sense, but some people wait until they know what their teachers want them to have. Being pro-active is a great way to be prepared and successful!

  • Prepare yourself spiritually. Be prayed up!

Ask your parent/guardian or youth pastor for prayer. It is important to be covered in prayer, especially when you are beginning a new season. God loves you so much!!!

  • Start a journal.

Begin a journal with the Lord–write down your requests, thoughts, prayers, and praise reports. Then, at the end of the year, you can see all of what God has done!

I love looking back and reflecting on God’s mercy, love, and faithfulness. You won’t regret keeping a journal, I promise.

Good luck, PI girls!

You are talented, smart, and amazing daughters of the King! GO in confidence and humility knowing that God is on your side and cheers you on!

What are some of your tips and ideas for staying motivated and organized?

Here is a picture from the last day of school from last year. I usually wear t-shirts and jeans, and of course I always wear my converse. I don’t really dress up that much, but I don’t like to wear sweats to school. I like the way I dress because it comfortable, without looking too dressed down.

I always try to pick outfits while thinking, “Would God appove?” I know it is really hard in our culture today to wear things that will please God because many styles show a lot of skin. Modesty is definitely the best policy. :)

I also love to wear things that I love and I don’t care what other people think about them. In this pic, I am wearing my FAVORITE leather jacket:) and also I am wearing pink-sparkly converse…I think that all girls should love to be different. I hate when everyone wears the same jeans from all the same stores. God made us all unique, and we should show that in what we wear! :D

(P.S. That is my brother in the pic)
