Courageous Movie

“Courageous” is a Great New Movie for Christians!

TAGS:

Courageous, a new film by Christian film production studio, Sherwood Pictures, opens in theaters September 30th.

Courageous is about the lives of four policemen who struggle with fatherhood and their faith. A tragedy causes each of them to reevaluate their bonds with their children and ultimately they’re all brought closer to God. Courageous captures day-to-day challenges that people of all ages can relate to.

A little bit about Sherwood Pictures: It’s a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church. They’ve produced four movies – Flywheel, Facing the Giants and Fireproof. Alex Kendrick, who plays the main character in each movie (except Fireproof) is one of the founders of the church. Kendrick also directed all four movies and co-wrote them with his brother, Stephen Kendrick.

I’m a big fan of both Facing the Giants and Fireproof. The former is a story about the struggles of a high school football coach who’s having financial trouble and is about to lose his job. He looks to God when his team continues to perform poorly. He is also dealing with pressures at home – his wife yearns to have a child but they’re having problems conceiving.

In Fireproof, Kirk Cameron plays the role of a fireman who is close to divorce. When he approaches his father with the news, he is given a 40-day challenge. (I learned a lot about marriage while watching this movie!)

Needless to say, I’m very excited to watch Courageous. I’m always excited to find an entertaining and wholesome movie that teaches Christian values and spreads the word of God. I think that Sherwood Pictures has been successful at this with their previous movies. They reflect the trials and tribulations of real people. They also show how Christians remain strong in times of pain and struggle. Most importantly, they demonstrate that we should continue to hold onto our faith and our love for God even during moments when we feel abandoned. The message is that when things that we pray for never come to fruition, it may be because it’s not what God has planned for us.

If you’re looking for an inspirational movie that glorifies God, then check out Courageous. Please come back and give us your feedback! Have you seen Fireproof or Facing the Giants? What did you think? Which movie did you find the most inspirational and why?

  1. I’m going to see this on Saturday! very excited!! :)

  2. I can’t wait to see this movie!! Unfortunately, I live out of the U.S., so I can’t see it right away. I LOVED Fireproof. It is a great example of how marriage can be repaired and doesn’t always just fall apart. It is a wonderful inspiration in the world today because of the high divorce rate. My dad is a pastor and one of the people he helped did the love dare on his wife ’cause they’re marriage was drifting. I heard it worked quite nicely :) I also liked their movie “Flywheel”. That was their first movie.

  3. I’ve been hearing about this movie for a year now. I can’t wait to finally watch it :)

  4. I cant wait to see it!!! My church is selling tickets for it! Two people from my church are actually in the movie!

  5. I saw an early screening of this movie and I cried the hardest I have in a while. It was soooo touching. It’s a must see, especially for fathers.

  6. i love all the movies by them. Fireproof was amazing! even my bro and sis (who are only 13 and 11) love it and we as a family rewatch it all the time. Facing the Giants was also an amazing movie, and really inspirational to me. ive been waiting for Courageous for a long time, cant wait to finally see it! :)

  7. So excited for this movie! Looks so amazing.

  8. I can’t WAIT to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I think I’m going to go see this with my dad :) It sounds like a really good family movie.

  10. One of the stars graduated from my high school!! He came and spoke to us; I’m so excited about this. ;D Can’t wait to see it!

  11. I watched “Facing the Giants” in youth bible study, and my friends on a Christian Teen Forum told me that I should watch it. I have it on dvd and I love it.

  12. My youth leader/mission trip leader Angie Nelson plays Carmen Martinez(wife/mom) in the movie!! So excited to see it! :)

    • oh wow that’s so cool!!

    • wow! and she was amazing in that movie too!

  13. I love both of those movies:) I hope they make more!!!

  14. It’s Alex and Stephen Kendrick, not Kirk Kendrick :)

I have seen all of the Sherwood Baptist movies and LOVE them. I own Facing the Giants and I plan to buy Fireproof and Flywheel. I am going to see this movie ASAP! I wish they would make more of them! it seems like they only release one every 2 or 3 years :(

I also want to read “The Love Dare” which is the book Fireproof is based on and was used in the movie.

    • Cammie: You are so right and I need to pay more attention when
I proofread. Stephen’s lucky I didn’t rename him Kirk too:/ Thanks for the correction. I have Facing the Giants and Fireproof. I want Flywheel too.

    • It would be nice if there were more Christian family-friendly movies that come out. But in a way, I’m glad they are always producing more, because it makes each one that much more special. Each of their movies have a meaning and a purpose. I don’t want them to start mass-producing movies and then lose sight of what’s important or the heart of the message. They can take all the time they need to make their movies just right. Also, I don’t want them to venture into making a movie without first having God’s guidance first and having Him tell them and direct them to it first.

  15. I gotta see this movie!!!

  16. The church that makes these movies is like 10 minutes from my house!! Haha:)

  17. I’m watching this with my family and church on Sunday.

  18. Best movie like ever!

  19. Wow… I finally got to go see this movie last night for my daddy’s birthday. It really is another awesome movie. And I must say, one of my favorite little details is where Adam (Alex Kendrick) got his car… Jay Austin Motors!!!!!! :D it is such a great movie. I really, really recommend everyone to go see it with there dad. It’s a great movie every dad should get to see. :)

  20. The movie was truly amazing and inspirational! I saw it last night with some friends and we were all sobbing and laughing at the same time! In the movie there are some really powerful, heavy stuff. The movie is a perfect mix of emotional and hilarious. It will inspire and shock you…

  21. I went and saw this last night and it was the most amazing, inspiring movie ever. This movie teaches all about being a christian father and about learning to dance your half of the dance. It really touched my heart seeing ans I have never met my biological father and my stepdad and me dont really get along. Its really an amazing movie.

  22. I saw this movie in Theaters last night when it opened, it was such a powerful movie, and yeah there was some stiff acting but it was cool to see how the status of fathers in families was really challenged. I’m a girl but I have some key qualities that I need to see in a man before I’m just going to marry him. I think that this movie is not only valuable for men to see as they’re growing up and becoming fathers but also very powerful for girls to watch as they’re growing up and seeing the qualities they should look for in a man when they start dating.
And on a side note, girls, don’t date just for a relationship and don’t think that just because he’s sweet to you that you’re going to grow up and seven years form now marry him. Wait for God’s plan in yur life before you go gallavanting off with the first Prince Charming you meet. Really seek God for the ‘right’ guy!

  23. i love fireproof… it is very sensitive, touching and real. the end is so good!!

  24. I saw it last night with my best friend! It was absolutley phenomenal!!!!!! I’m not usually the one to cry in movies, but I was balling like an infant. Highly recommended!!! :D

  25. I saw it and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Facing the Giants has been my favorite movie of all time since I saw it for the first time years ago. I loved Fireproof too (not as much as Facing the Giants, though ;P) But this movie was incredible. It might even be my new favorite movie…but maybe not, just because Facing the Giants has held that position for so long…lol

    • oh! And I saw Flywheel too. Also very good. Nothing compared to Courageous though. This was on a whole new scale, it feels like.

  26. I watched this movie with my dad the day it came out. It was great! It had me crying, smiling, laughing, and awwwwing. A definite “have to see movie”. Hope y’all watch it :)

  27. Got to see it last night Amazing! everyone can learn something from it. This is one that I will go see over and over again. :) bring your tissues though. you’ll laugh, you’ll cry then laugh again then cry again and just back and fourth.

  28. I went to see this, and i recommend a box of tissues, i was crying the whole time i wasn’t laughing. but defiantly a MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Ooo! I want to see this!

  30. I just recently went to see this movie with my two friends and I have to agree. This movie is SUCH an inspiration for me! It made me look over my current relationships, and to realize that you can’t just take your parents for granted. Love them, because someday, they won’t be there. This movie made me cry, but it also made me laugh and come to the truth about a lot of things. It’s now one of my favorites.

  31. I saw Courageous last night with my mom and I absolutely loved it!!! Parts of it were extremely funny, everyone in the theater was laughing, and parts of it were very sad. This is probably my favorite movie of all time because it has such a good Christian message and is so inspirational, not to mention the humour. :)

    • I want to watch it too:))
