Enrique Iglesias: Another Hollywood sell-out

I was listening to the radio the other day- on the Sirius channel called BPM- where  they usually play upbeat dance type music from a lot of cool artists. However, I was driving and one song was so incredibly shocking, I almost forgot where I was going. Enrique Iglesias’ hit song entitled “Tonight I’m Lovin you,” is in fact the clean version for something much more derogatory and obscene toward women. In the song, He talks about meeting a girl at a club,  and then in a bragging matter  talks about how he’s going to sleep with her the same night without caring about her at all. Although I was never a big fan of his, I remember most of his songs as being sweet and sentimental, and not disrespectful toward women. His hit songs “Hero,” “It must be love,” and “escape,” are all about how he is enamored with a girl and not sexually degrading. Enrique is willing to do (and sing) about whatever he thinks will be a hit- without giving any regard to women’s feelings, and not caring about the harmful impact his lyrics can have on young fans.  Instead of contributing a positive message to society and entertaining while still being appropriate, he’s just another example of a public figure that sold out for money and doesn’t have a conscience.

Ugh. I never really liked him. His music always seemed so degrading on woman.

My friend is sooooo obsessed with him and I had no idea why because I never listened to him. One night he was performing on one of my favorite shows and I called her and I was like “hey, that guy you like is on tv.” And she said “I know listen to him! He’s so awesome!” He performed his song called “I Like It” and I listened to the words and I couldn’t believe how bad it was!! I asked her why she liked this guy and she said it was because he has “the voice of an angel.” Ugh it makes me sick just thinking about it!! Bleh!

Though his music was “sweet and sentimental” before, he has always been a man-whore, even when he sang his old stuff. Also, although I’ve been a fan of his since he started making music, of course I still agree with your post. His music use to be so great, now it just fits in with everything else. It’s also sad to me how he can’t make a song by himself, it always has to feature some rapper or something, ew. That also reminds me of the fact that people like him are messing up Techno and Trance too.

It seems to me that the more these stars become more and more famous, they are pushed by some strong force to sell out and behave contrary to the way they became famous in the first place. I don’t listen to much secular music, but it’s hard to get away from it when you go to a secular school, and everything that I have heard has been something demeaning towards women, values, or both. It’s very sad.

Oh, don’t forget to mention “I like it”. Ugh.

Great point. I never really thought about this song like that.

Too bad everybody loves this song. He’s a bad example. Music is one of the biggest ways to promote stuff. Everybody listens to music.
And he’s promoting sex. And so is most of the mainstream music.
And it makes me sick. Little kids hear this!! 🙁

He’s just gross. Look at his sleazy expression. I hope if you saw this guy in a bar you would run fast in the other direction!
