Friends with Benefits: Not!

The recent film No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman is about two friends who become ‘sex buddies’ and eventually fall in love. It’s ironic because 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t work out that way, and in fact the opposite occurs. The friendship completely dwindles and is solely based on sex, and nothing more. Hollywood has completely run out of ideas, because guess what? This summer another film will hit a theater- near- you called Friends with Benefits starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. The movie premise is completely the same, two friends casually have sex and then fall in love.

It’s sad when the movie industry glorifies this type of ‘relationship’ you might call it, because it’s completely unrealistic and promotes casual sex which isn’t what our value (as women) should consist of. Long gone are the days when women were treasured and respected as more than just casual sex flings. Let’s stand up for what is right, and fight against the stereotype that our only worth is in our bodies. Why should this upcoming movie deserve our money when we’ve already seen the same thing, over and over? Simple answer: It doesn’t.

no friendship can survive if you just have s*x. im not into the whole FWB crap,or anything, and people are telling me that i’m a party pooper, and i just tell them that it’s better to be a party pooper, then to be 16 and pregnant, even though i’m only fifteen. i have that problem with my ex where he wants to have s*x with me and tries to tempt me into it. i keep my distance from him and somehow he manages to get to me again. so i completely agree with this article 100% in a long winded nut shell. i will not be watching either of these movies.

Instead of Friends with Benefits it should be more “CHRISTIAN Couples With Benefits”

This kind of media is EXACTLY what Satan wants us to be submitted to; lustful, premarital sex. I think what is even more sad is that actors/actresses willingly SUBMIT themselves to acting like this, whether they know it’s wrong or not.

It’s completely giving the wrong message, wait until marriage for sex.

Oh stupid stupid stupid Hollywood. I hate when they repeat things just to make sure that we are good and brainwashed.

That is SO true. But think, it’s really Satan getting his way. All we can really do is pray for those who submit themselves to media like that, and instead submit OURSELVES to positive and God-glorifying media.

this is pathetic. it’s a MOVIE. I would hope teen girls would be smart enough not to get a ‘negative message’ from this.
I know I wouldn’t. I’m only fourteen and even I’m smart enough to know that just because it’s in a movie doesn’t mean it’s ‘glorious’
just because it features casual sex does NOT mean it’s ‘glorifying’ it.

this entire site is a joke.

In old movies, married people would sleep in DIFFERENT beds, they wouldn’t dare show them side by side in the same bed. God says marriage than sex. but now it’s like “oh I just want to have It, then I’ll see who I can fall in love with.” EWWWWW

OMGosh I know!!! In ‘I Love Lucy’, Ricky and Lucy NEVER slept in the same bed, they had two twin beds! And same with Ethel and Fred. ๐Ÿ˜› And yes, EEEWWWW. ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

i love the show I Love Lucy, back then, they weren’t allowed to even mention s*x on t.v. or even when Lucy was with child, they said “while expecting” or something along those, and not “while you’re pregnant.” but now you’re allowed to do that, and it just hurts my heart, cause you see it everywhere now ๐Ÿ™

I just think that these movies are not helping us at all. first they promote casual sex (meaning sex outside of marriage) this will influence women but most importantly teenage girls. 2nd. this will lead to higher rates of teen pregnancy, spread of STD’s, and emotional problems.

These types of movies are so RIDICULOUS!
Satan has definitely gotten a stronghold in advertisements, movies, and stuff like that.
    And it makes me mad.

So glad you posted this. As a newly single gal, this sort of premise totally messes with my mind!!! I felt the same thing about Love and Other Drugs.

    • Posted by Nicole on March 1, 2011 at 19:48

Halie- I did too! Love and other Drugs is completely sending the wrong message to girls as well. That we should sleep with a man right away and then maybe he’ll like us!

I agree. I thought the Ashton/Natalie movie was groan-worthy (and not in a good way) – everyone I know who saw it thought it was totally raunchy. Judging by these movies, Hollywood’s obviously completely given up on the romcom.

  11. Posted by on February 27, 2011 at 16:02

What is this movie rated? I’m curious because if it is R I would hope people old enough to see it would be jaded enough to recognize what a joke it is.

You are SO RIGHT! I have to admit I saw the movie with Natalie P and Ashton K because I totally love them both and tho Ive never had that kind of friendship I can see that it would give you the wrong idea.
