so im having a really hard time with algebra 1 this year. I am really trying but I cant remember anything I learned the day before! I feel really stupid and put myself down all the time. I wish there was a test or something I could take to see if there is anything wrong with me. But my mom thinks i’m just not trying enough and im lazy and have an attitude about it. please help is there any advise or tests I can take or something please?

Well, I don’t think it’s fair to say you’re stupid- if it were, the same could be said about me and my difficulty reading. You’re just right brained, and that’s not bad. It’s a shame that right hemisphere intelligence isn’t given the same value by society.
If it’s a memory issue concerning formulas, my best advice is to just write the formulas down over and over.

Algebra was the hardest thing for me last year. The good news is that people who have problems with Algebra tend to do better in Geometry, so you could end up being a genius in that area 😉 . As for advice, I would see if you can talk to your teacher one on one. Having that time where you can ask as many questions as you need to can be really beneficial. And your teacher may be able to pin point exactly where you’re having trouble, and he/she can help you figure it out. Plus getting help outside of class can’t possibly be seen as “lazy” by your mom (which I doubt you’re being anyway). Also, Khan Academy was really great for me, and it’s free. I’d give it a try. 🙂
