So I was reading the 39 Clues and I was wondering if it was biblically okay for Ian and Amy to have crushes on each other.

Sorry, I haven’t read it. Can you give me a quick run down of the story?

In a nutshell, throughout a few of the books these two kids develop feelings for each other even though they are distantly related.

Sorry, I’m really bad at summaries.

How distantly related are we talking? In the Bible, first cousin marriages and anything more distantly related than that are not forbidden. Plus, once you get to second cousins and further distantly related, they don’t share much more genes than any random two people.

They are fifth cousins.

That should be fine then. 🙂

Marcy~ Just to be clear, the bible says first cousin marriages are not forbidden? Just curious..not something I’ve thought about much before 🙂

Yeah, they are not forbidden. Leviticus and Deuteronomy list a lot of relatives you are not allowed to marry, but don’t forbid cousin marriage. There are also several examples of cousin marriage in the Bible, including Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Leah and Rachel, and, in Judges, Caleb’s daughter marries his nephew.

I can’t imagine being romantically involved with my cousin… That’s really food for thought…

Interesting! I read that book “8 Cousins” and “A Rose in Bloom” by Louisa May Alcott and I was always weirded out that Rose married her cousin. I feel better now lol
Sort of anyway, it’s still a weird thought haha 🙂 I can’t imagine liking my cousin romantically at all.

lol Yeah, me, too. The idea of being romantically attracted to my cousin is way too weird for me.

I guess back then it probably wasn’t so weird because there were less people in the world?? It was probably pretty common

Yeah, I think it was pretty common to marry your relatives back then because family bonds were so important and people didn’t move around and mix with as many different people. It’s just too weird to consider someone that close today, you know.
