Hey:) I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about ‘options’ in my future. At the moment, I am studying at a Uni ( not in the USA- I live in a different country- I am a domestic student) doing a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese and Spanish. However, I have doubts about my degree- I have been realising that it will not guarantee me a job of any kind anyway( I won’t be fluent in the language after the degree) and I do not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. So I was thinking of taking a break ( taking a semester/term) off from uni to really think about what I want to do in life. The problem is that my father is not very supportive of the idea and wants me to finish off my degree- because I only have 1 year and a half anyway. Then to pursue another degree. But that means I will only finish study till I am 25… Plus I have a student loan. All my other family are supportive though and are supportive about me taking a break to really think about what I really want to do in life and to have a break from stress from life( I had a not so good year). So should I continue my degree or take a break?

About career options… I always felt drawn to the media/entertainment industry. I really enjoy being creative and I love learning about theatre, film, publishing and anything related. I also have started teaching music ( piano) speech and drama, and teaching Sunday Students to 8-10 year olds. Teaching is fine but it is not my first passion.Do any of you have any possible suggestions that I could look into? I always had an interest in acting ( I have done acting for years- not in tv or movies though) and I always had creative ideas in my head. In fact, I always had a dream for years to become a professional actress. However, a part of me is scared because it is not a stable profession and there are things that are very immoral. Should I look into getting into drama school? Do you think I could glorify God as an actress? Or do you have any other suggestions that you think I would like? If so, what sort of training would you need?

Thank you for helping:)

I’m currently in film school, have about a year left. I’ve realized that I really don’t want to go into the entertianment industry and want to pursue marketing instead. But the entertianment industry isn’t immoral. It depends on exactly what you do. My roommates are acting majors and there are plenty of good Christian actors. St. Pope John Paul II was really into the arts and was in theatre when he was young, and while he was a priest.

Hey there, I am currently struggling with college choices as well, and how to honor my parents with my schooling and what they want me to do verses what I think I would enjoy. In your case, how much of your schooling would count as credit if you were to switch majors? Would you be able to go to the same school or would you have to transfer?
I think that there are a ton of opportunities to honor and serve God in the entertainment industry. But I also think that if you choose to do that you will have to guard yourself very carefully, and be cautious to stay in the word because of all the temptations you might find there.
