So, I’ve seen post after post about the importance of church, why you should be in a church, and to not make skipping a habit but I want to know, should I feel guilty about not wanting to go to the main service? The way the pastor at my church preaches rubs me the wrong way. Not in an uncomfortable God trying to grow me kind of thing no like every week I feel horrible uncomfortable with his preaching style. It just feels like a guilt trip with a few passages of scriptures mixed in.

Also, I love the college ministry we have at my church. The fellowship, the teachings, that is truly where I feel like I grow in my relationship with God. During main service… not so much. But my church puts SO MUCH emphasis to the point of guilt on you HAVE to go to the main service or you’re basically a bad Christian. But I’m wondering what scripture actually says about that.

The only difference between my Sunday school class and main service is that my sunday school is missing the “corporate worship” and honestly, I’m really introverted, so I feel more at home listening to that music by myself during quiet time or when I’m doing homework.

Corporate worship is very important and necessary. However, if you do not feel your minister is properly fulfilling the call to preach the Bible and instead is adding his own guilt bringing rules, then that is not a good church to be at and it would be a good idea to look for another church for corporate worship (while still attending the college ministry if you can). I’ve been in the situation of having to leave a church because the preaching was not alright, and, while its hard, it’s worth it to find a church where you can worship with the congregation and grow. 🙂

I know where you’re coming from. The church I grew up in (a Russian church) really puts an emphasis on sin and guilt tripping and it honestly gets ridiculous. It’s like, shouldn’t we be focusing on our freedom and the way we can get RID of sin? Or just deepening our relationship with the Lord? It does get frustrating. Especially when I get hate for going to an American church. I get judgement like “Oh, American churches aren’t really Christian. All they preach about is love and not truth.” But it is rough because I serve in the Russian church and grow in the American one. I can also relate to being introverted. It’s hard for me to meet new people and form close relationships with them. But fellowship with believers is important. The Bible calls us to share our sins and carry each other’s burdens. By forming close relationships with fellow believers, we can get through life easier and learn more. Hope this helps!

hey, I know I’m kinda late on the topic I totally feel you 😉 I don’t really know a church that really worships, there is no spirit, no power behind it, there are this really strict old people, that don’t even really life in the name of Jesus, and they don’t really talk about the important topics. And there are no youth groups or bible study or something like that anywhere here as far as i know 😛 So what I do is I listen to people talking about gods word on youtube (Trent Shelton, Heather Lindsey etc.) and listen to worship music, read in gods word, talk about it with family members (mom, cousin) and in our family we have this met-ups where we sing worship songs and pray for each other and talk about thinks that we need some guidance on ;D and for me thats more than some church where everybody just sits, nobody really listens and you shall not clap to a song or you’ll get mad eyes from all around ;P
