So here’s the breakdown. I am a baby Christian. My mum is a faith warrior. My dad, well… I just don’t know and my sister is an agnostic.
Recently, a man from my church died of cancer. Everybody prayed for him. Everybody prayed after he died for God to bring him back but he didn’t. My sister and dad were having a discussion that if God is “such a good God” and “listens to prayers” why did he allow this good god- fearing man to die. Yet, God will answer the prayers of others in this situation. I couldn’t give a reason; I just don’t know! They said then that Christians don’t take any responsibility as we’ll say things like “our God will heal you” and if he doesn’t we use the “excuse” that it wasn’t in God’s plan. They say how can you believe in a God that you can’t understand? You don’t even know the plans he has for you. What’s the point of prayer if you don’t get what you want when you really need it.
I don’t know how to answer this.

The main reason that prayer request for that man to get better didn’t get answered was most likely because it wasn’t God’s will for it to happen. In our eyes it may have looked like the healing was meant to come then, but perhaps it was just God’s time to call him home.
Another reason prayers don’t get answered is because people are living a life of sin or they have certain sins in their life and aren’t obeying God in areas He wants them to first.
Another reason a prayer may not get answered is because it’s not the right time/ you have to wait more until it’s God’s own perfect timing.
Another reason your prayer may not be being answered is because God has something much better planned for you.
Another reason is because God may want you to take a bold leap first before He answers you.
That’s my input, I guess 🙂

I believe that the prayer was answered. After a christian dies, we go to a place of eternal life and no more suffering or pain! God felt as if it was this man’s time to have that life. So, he was healed, maybe not in the way that we would have chosen or expected, but he now really is in place where his cancer is gone. God had mercy on him!
The questions that you have been asked are difficult ones that everyone struggles to answer. But I will do my best 🙂
“How can you believe in a God that you can’t understand? You don’t even know the plans he has for you. What’s the point of prayer if you don’t get what you want when you really need it.”
My answer to the first question is, you just have to have faith like it says 2 Corinthians 5:7 and 1 Peter 1:8-9. And my answer to the second question is, if we knew God’s plan for us we would probably end up running into the opposite direction! Many people in the Bible were terrified when they found out about God’s plan. But they went and did amazing things! My answer to the third question is God know what we need, when we need it. In Mathew 6:8 he says so. It may not be what, when, or how we want it, but if we trust and love God and follow him, he will always have our best interest at heart. But we also have to realize that God’s will might include suffering and poverty so that we might learn how to lean on him. But it could also include prosperity where we can learn to be thankful.
Always remember that it’s going to be okay, and that God will never leave you or forsake you! HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE! Never forget that.
