Lately, I feel as though I’m going through all the motions of a Christian life.
I try to stay out of sin, I read the bible everyday, and I pray several times a day. But I haven’t felt farther from God at this moment than I have in my whole life. For the past two years I had been living a very sinful life and I.recently repented. But the repentance wasn’t what I thought it would be like. There was no rush of relief, happiness, or a connection with God. This hasn’t changed the past few weeks either. Although I could follow the.same route to atheism that most people take when they feel this way, I still believe that Christian morals are necessary. There are certain beliefs I have against abortion, immodesty, and homosexual marriage that are harder to justify if I don’t believe in God. In the possibility that a certain sin has been keeping me from God, it would be sexual sins. Although I don’t know how it’s keeping me from God because other Christians sin and they still feel close to God. Even though I struggle with sexual sins, I have never outright lost my virginity, I have done things with guys that are far from sinless. But the problem is that I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as it’s consensual. It wouldn’t bother me if the man I marry isn’t a virgin. I hope I don’t sound like a lost cause because I really do want to believe in God again. If anyone can help me with any constructive advice, I would greatly appreciate it! (:

I want to point out that there are people who don’t believe in God that have the same views that you do, so it’s obviously not impossible to justify–but if it were (or if you don’t find the reasons they use to be convincing), it might mean your beliefs would have to change, which is not a bad thing, even though it may be hard.
Having said that, as an atheist myself, I don’t really have much to say that might help you believe in God again.

I understand very well what you need at this point in your life; I was recently there too. Even when you go through all the motions of a ‘Christian’ life, without faith in God, it is nothing. I also used to look at it as certain duties to fulfill or things to do to make yourSELF a ‘good’ person, rather than to glorify GOD. God is always with you and will never forsake you, so even if you feel far away, it’s always good to trust that He is there with you. ALWAYS 🙂 Feelings can’t be trusted as honest markers of how close you are to God.
“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:11
God provides all that is needed to carry out this life as a follower of Christ, praise be unto Him INCLUDING the faith you need in Him. But you yourself have to make that decision to follow Him and fully submit your life and desires, and your will to Him. You have to decide to serve Him, even when there doesn’t seem to be any change in your life, even when you feel far away from Him. Just keep persevering in faith, and you will see that change you need come into your life. Even those sins in your life, continue praying that He’ll set you free completely from the desire to even do them. All things are possible through Christ who gives you strength. Know God does give and he does answer prayers, as long as it is His will. He longs to give to you, yourself. Keep trusting that He will do so, that He will give you all you need.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” -Luke 11:9

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”- Hebrew 11:6
And if you draw near to God, He will draw near to you:
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”– James 4:8
Keep persevering and aim to eliminate the sin that is currently there in your life, keep in prayer that the Lord will give you strength, pray the Lord will make His will clear to you in your life and that He’ll open your eyes up to the Truth that is there in His Word. If you ask for Him to help you in this faith, He will answer you since you sought Him.
I’ll be praying for you, Sister. God bless 😀
