I’m wondering what you all think about the idea of gender neutral bathrooms, which are becoming much more prevalent nowadays. The concept is that for people who are transgender or maybe don’t identify as male or female, places like schools or churches can have a separate, single-stall bathroom that is labeled as gender neutral (kind of like family restrooms or ones you see in restaurants.)
I have also been in several places (with pretty progressive mindsets) that have given up gendered bathrooms and simply had two public, 4-stall bathrooms with a gender-neutral sign. there weren’t urinals in either of them so everyone went into a stall to do their business and that was that. I personally loved it, because it was freeing and it felt nice to not have to be segregated by gender in this setting. But I can see why people would be critical.
What do you all think?

This is probably just me, but I don’t want to go into a bathroom where guys are all by myself. For one it’s awkward and two it can be unsafe. I don’t want to fix my hair or put on lipstick in the mirror when there are guys around.

Agreed @Nate. Same with opening pads and getting tampons from the little dispenser thing. Pad packages are loud, and getting tampons in front of guys would be akward with a capital A. If you do it in the girl’s bathroom, nobody cares. 😛

I like single stall bathrooms in general, but these are great for gender neutral stalls. You’re the only person in there at once, and just as a general comment, no one has to hear you pee.

Oh ok if it is a one person stall then that is perfectly ok. It’s just the bigger bathrooms that would be awkward.

I think it would be okay to have gender neutral bathrooms as long as they were singe stall. If they were large public bathrooms, then I think people would start feeling uncomfortable. It may give creepy old men an excuse to spy on women in the women’s bathroom by using the term “Im gender neutral you can’t kick me out.” Although the idea that we can all coexist and have no problems and all use the same bathroom seems nice, it is just not reality. But I think gender neutral single stall bathrooms would be fine. I wish we lived in a world where we could do gender neutral public bathrooms, but unfortunately we live in a world full of creepos.

Also I think it’d be really funny and cool if instead of the male or female sign on the bathrooms we had a skeleton then it was listed as “humans” i dunno that just sorta makes me laugh haha id use that bathroom!

Yes I think the gender neutral single-stall thing is fine. I just wouldn’t be very fond of a whole restroom being gender neutral because that could be a bit awkward and even unsafe in certain situations.

I wouldn’t be comfortable with larger bathrooms being gender neutral, but I think single stalls are perfectly fine. I actually think its funny when single stalls are marked guys or girls because both genders use both a lot of the time.

SIngle stalls are great! In fact, I think there should be more everywhere, cause I don’t know about you girls, but peeing when there are other people in the bathroom is really awkward. Also, if I have to cry in the bathroom, I’d much rather do it alone then with people possibly walking in.
