Hey, everyone! I’m going into my freshman year of high school this year. When I started band camp, I noticed a lot of swearing and sexual references. I was even given strange looks for dressing modestly, and heard a lot of rude comments about Christianity. How do I keep my mind pure through high school, even though I can already tell it’s going to be very hard?

Hi! I am a sophomore in high school now, and I go to public school so I have had experience with this. The truth is, it’s hard. It’s hard to keep your mind pure when everyone around you is cussing up a storm and making innapropriate references. It’s hard, but not impossible. What I have found with my experience is that it’s important to get as much time as possible with God. When I’m on the bus going to and from school, I listen only to worship music and use that time to pray and connect with God. If I hear someone talking about something inappropriate, I stop listening. You can’t control what other people say or do, but you can choose what your reaction is to it. Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you so much! I’ve been trying all of these. During quiet moments in class, I pray. I usually sit and pray on the bus when I don’t have my headphones. Thanks again and God Bless!

Hey girls. I came a bit late to the conversation but I am a high school junior. In all honesty, I was sheltered pretty well early on so I found it as a big shock in high school and musical. Be careful of friends. We want to minister to no-believers but keep your inner circle of friends {Does not have to be school friends}, Christian. They can help you stay on track

For me personally I am a Junior in highschool. God said for us to be in the world but not of it. I had the same questions my freshmen year. I started telling people not to use that language around me but sometimes the didn’t take me seriously. Eventually I came to the conclusion that how I speak they will pick up on my standards. So this year one person almost cussed in front of me and they saw me and said oh sorry I meant it was really annoying… (instead of something else.) How you live determines how others treat you.
