So I am a military brat. I have moved 8 times in the last 18 years. I don’t technically have a home town but I claim Hill City, SD as my home. I moved from there 3 years ago. I miss it all the time. I was watching a show earlier today and they were in Deadwood, SD which is only about 10 miles from home and it made me start crying because I knew all of the places that they were going. I knew all of the places that they were showing in the previews and the little clip they show of the area when they get back from a commercial. Have any of you had this happen? Have you ever been watching a show and seen your hometown? How did you feel about it?

I’m so sorry babe! I know how you feel, I’m not military but I too moved 8 times in 18 years, for my Dad’s job. (Company transfers, job lay-offs, new jobs, etc.) I claim 2 places as my home, both are where my best friends are. I’ve never seen my “hometown” on a show, but I do get homesick sometimes, especially because I don’t have any super close friends where I am right now.
The best thing to do is get involved in lots of activities where you are right now, be yourself, meet people, and enjoy the fact that you’ve gotten to experience lots of things that people who never move don’t get to. And you’re probably a pro at adapting to new places quickly now, which is a great skill to have.

I love where I am now, not because of the landscape but because of my friends. I just miss SD. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world and I love it!

I have two places I call my hometown! I originally grew up in the suburbs of Detroit Michigan, but when I was about 9 I moved to Iowa. For the LONGEST time I was so homesick and all I wanted to do was move back! Now, as I’ve grown up most of my pre teen and teenage years here in Iowa I feel like when I move to Grand Rapids Michigan by myself I will feel homesick. However, Grand Rapids is near Detroit (3 hours but my brother lives there so I’ll be making trips there often), so I’m confused if I’ll feel more homesick towards Iowa or Detroit.
