this boy asked me out and he is in my youth group. He is pretty cute and really nice but we have never really talked before. We have chatted once or twice but that’s it. One night he texted me and gave me this long thing on how beautiful I was and how long he has had a crush on me but I said no because I really didn’t know him that well. He quit talking to me and now after like 5 months he still won’t talk to me. I’m friends with almost everybody in my youth group and I don’t like to be awkward with anyone. What do I do to get him to be friends with me!?!?! I don’t want to be his girlfriend I just like to be friends with people.

I’d recommend going to him and being upfront about it. Explain why you said no to him when he asked you on a date — that you don’t know him very well, and that you weren’t trying to offend him when you turned him down. Tell him that you’d like to be friends, and that you want to put an end to the awkwardness between you. Honesty is the best policy.
I know it can be intimidating to spill your feelings to someone, especially if you perceive that they feel negatively toward you. But it’s so freeing to say it like it is. Often, relationships — and even friendships — tend to be murky or difficult to define. It’s a good practice to be clear and open with those around you.
