Hey girls,

So I recently got selected to be in a pageant this fall and while I’m excited, I’m also kind of worried that I’ll become self-centered and drift away from God. I really want to stay close to him and not become bratty and self-centered, so can you help me? What are some good ideas? Thanks!! šŸ™‚

Colossians 3:17 ; And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
In everything you do, do it in the name of Jesus. The only home I have ever been in the “spotlight” was when I was on the worship team at my last church. I remember everyday after I started, praying and azking God to remind me that I was doing it for Him, not myself. If you set your heart on doing this to glorify God and give Thanks to Him then He will direct your ways. “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6
Also, ask God to humble you. That he would not allow you to think too highly of yourself. Rebuke all spirits of haughtiness and pray against any temptation to be self-centered.
Romans 12:3 ; For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
I’m telling you, if you dedicate this to God and you pray (even have your parents, youth pastor, or an adult you trust pray over you as well. You can never have too much of prayer! 😉) then God will keep you on the right track. I’m praying for you, girl! 😁😊🙏

The fact that you want to stay on track with God is so amazing, considering that so many people wouldn’t even think about God in these situations. I completely agree with the person who answered before me, especially that you should stay in prayer for God to humble you and keep you away from temptation. I know how it feels to already be self-centered, and wanting to get back on track with God. I know that it’s a lot easier said than done to stay focused on God. One of the things that helped the most for me, was to set aside time everyday for prayer, worship, and Gods word. It may seem small, but giving God your time, (even if it is only 10-15 minutes a day), will really boost your relationship with him, and really focus you on him. Also, try to take notes when you read the bible, and write down how what your reading has to do with your life. If you have trouble doing that, I recommend reading a Bible devotion ( they are free on the YouVersion Bible app). You should also have a group of Christian friends or counselors, such as your youth group or youth leaders at church, and sometimes just talking with these people about God can really help you. Remember to keep on praying, and I know that you will do fine! I will be praying for you too, and if you need help with anything, I will be here for you:)
