Hey girls! So im in my first year of University and Ive been blessed to meet a lot of christian guys. I even met someone that matches every description i have on my list for a future hubby.. however as great as this has been ive realized that a lot of them have varying opinions when it comes to christianity and doctrine. Meaning that for example some of them dont celebrate Christmas, believe in dating or that the Holy Spirit can reveal things to people.. I guess im just wondering if someone is a Christian but doesnt necessarily have the same doctrine if thats a huge problem or something you can compromise on in a relationship? all opinions welcome 🙂

Hey happyitstestie! Definitely! Doctrine does matter- in fact one of the first things you should have set straight in your relationship is your beliefs. I’m not saying they have to be completely perfect or its all about doctrine, but if they lack greatly belief-wise you’ll find yourself unequally yoked in your faith. Be sure you line up in your mindset and your beliefs and expectations in life- present and future. You want someone who can support you spiritually and has the character of a Godly person. They cannot flounder in those areas. That’s my input on it. I hope you’ll find the right person for all that you need 🙂

I definitely think doctrine is important. Of course, the main thing is that he’s a Christian, but you should agree on most (not necessarily all) of the “little things” too. If you don’t, it’ll just lead to arguments, and compromise (more than is healthy). And some the things you mentioned, like the Holy Spirit are actually pretty big things… Having said that, pray about it, allow God to lead and guide you, and (if you can,) seek counsel from a godly older woman that you trust. 🙂
