This August I’m suppose to be going to the local university. While I’m excited, I feel like God has put a different path on my heart. Lately, I can’t stop thinking about becoming a missionary. Whenever I’m online I find myself googling “how to become a missionary”. I want to follow the path the God has for me, but I’m also very worried about how my parents and family members will react. They are expecting me to go to college and get a “good education”. I’m just afraid to tell my parents this new plan that I’ve been thinking about. I don’t want to disappoint them, but I also don’t want to disappoint God. Any advice to help things go smoothly?

I think it’s best to pray about it and get a lot of advice from your pastors and other spiritual leaders. But most importantly it would be great to tell your parents first. At least if they know, things would go smoother and the earlier, the better. Don’t worry about how they’ll react, just ask God for the boldness to do so. Hopefully, I pray, your parents will react positively to you telling them this. With time and. Being a missionary is certainly not an easy calling, but if it is where God intends for you to go, it would be great for you to go on. I’ll pray for you, that God’s will be made known to you.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
I made a reference thread on how to get a word from God if you want to check it out, its here:
God bless you in all you do!

I’m feeling the same way. I think about going into preaching, but my mother wants me to become an elementary teacher. You should seek what makes you happy. God wants you to be happy, He would never want to hurt you or upset you. Go the path where you feel like you fit in better. Even if you go into college, you can still leave easily and go into missionary work. I’ll send a prayer up for you, and if you ever need to talk, send me a message.
