I know it is tradition for a father to give away a daughter to the groom. However, what if the daughter did not have a stable relationship with the father and wanted nothing to do with him? Can he be substituted with the brother? Can she give herself away if the father is not willing or she simply does not want him there and does not see him fit to give her away if he had nothing to do with her growing up?

I wouldn’t see why not. It’s a tradition. There’s no reason you have to do it at all. The last wedding I was at, the girl walked down the aisle by herself. It was unusual but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Absolutely. I mean, plenty of girls don’t have fathers/parents.

Yes of course, I myself am thinking about walking myself away, or having both my parents give me away.
