How can I decipher real love from puppy dog feelings? I have a friend, and he’s a wonderful guy. We first met when school started and we liked each other almost immediately. We talk all the time now, and we’ve started hanging out outside of school. Most importantly, we are totally honest with each other and can totally be ourselves. However, I still feel like we’re just best friends, which is what I want, but how do know if I’m falling in love? Is it possible to be in love (real love, not puppy dog feelings) after only 3 months?

Hmmm. Well in my opnion, love is a choice not a feeling…Of course you will feel attracted to someone, and experience those love dovey feelings, desiring to spend time with them and such.. But I think that true love is experience after you have gone through trials together, and still made the decision to tough it out. Just my two cents, but I do not think it would be wrong at all to have a relationship with someone, even if you are not for sure you are in love with them, after all the purpose of dating someone is to see if you are complatible for marriage(: I hope that wasn’t too rambly and made some sense!!! Good luck! And I think it’s great you have established a friendship with this guy! It sounds like you are on a great track 🙂

Also, I have heard of couples who had a very short time of know each other (a girl from a blog I read only knew her current husband for 6 months before they tied the knot) and have rocking marriages now!! So ya never know:)

Yeah I pretty much agree. I believe that loving someone is a choice your heart makes. And if Jesus lives in your heart, it can’t be bad can it? 🙂

I would define ‘love’ as being willing to do anything for someone to put their needs above yours, even if that means dying for them. I think that if you can truly say that about this guy, then yes, you do love him. I agree with @missanonymous. It’s a choice you make beyond just the feelings of attraction.
