I like to write sad stories. I am currently writing this werewolf novel, that is a bit scary. I am trying to keep things minimal, but I’m not sure if what I’m doing is wrong. I never felt like it was “bad” until my mom pointed it out. Now, I’m worried that maybe what I’m writing dishonors god in some way. I have left out cursing and sex, but my book includes a lot of action. What do you think about me writing these types of stories? Do you think there is anything wrong with it or is it just another story?

Hey girl!
Fellow writer here, I don’t have a real answer for you here, but I am open to talking more about it. I write on wattpad and I understand the struggle of being a Christian writer

Hi!
Fellow writer, Christian, and English major here! I also can’t give a straight answer. But I don’t think writing about werewolves is necessarily dishonoring to God. It all depends on your intent. Are you encouraging people to wish they were werewolves, or encouraging people to emulate the behaviors of werewolves? Are you placing werewolves in a position that idolizes them as opposed to honoring God? Are you giving werewolves a voice that makes them better than God? Are you glorifying the violence? As a writer and a Christian, I understand the struggle of the fine line between making a book interesting but still honoring God. I don’t think there’s any huge problem with werewolves and violence as long as you aren’t glorifying either of the two things.

Yes! I totally understand the struggle. I also have a wattpad (sarahmarinara3791 if you’re curious 🙃) and I feel conflicted A LOT. Like is it okay to write a non christan theme? Do I have to include God in my storylines? I really don’t want to preach, so I find it hard to find the right way. I talked to my mom a little while back when she said my fanfics were a little dark. She said ‘as long as there is redemption, and the characters reflect something honorable, or something a reader can learn from, I don’t see a problem’. I would avoid cursing and keep romance within context, but it’s okay to find your writeriness!
(I know it’s super late but whatever)
