Okay, soooooo, I love movies and books, but unfortunately, my Mom doesn’t like my choice in movies. Like, I saw Watched the first few Harry Potter movies, and LOVED them, but when I told my Mom, she freaked out, and acted as if I was going to convert to witchcraft or something. I recently saw the Maze Runner Series at a friends house, and LOVED it, but my Mom would freak if I wanted to watch them again!! And it’s hard cause, my Mom forbids me from watching movies my friends love. Like I don’t want to watch R rated movies, but really… She and my Dad are SUPER overprotective about the movies I watch!!! Any advice?
God bless!

Ask your mom what exactly she objects to in the movies and see if you two can work out a compromise. She may not even know what’s really in the movies (sounds weird, but I’ve seen adults absolutely freak out about popular movies because of things they THINK are in it that aren’t). Also, show her reviews from Christian movie review sites (PluggedIn.com has great reviews) so she can see exactly what’s in the films. In addition, it may be an age thing, which can really stink, but you might be able to settle on a specific age for when you can start watching certain movies or something.

My parents are very strict on the movies i watch as well. They always, always, go to the app Plugged In which is a Christian review of the movies by Focus on the family. My mom barely lets me watch PG13 movies and I am almost 16! It kinda stinks considering all my friends get to see whatever they want. Some friends that go to my church watch Harry Potter movies and I have never seen one but personally I believe witchcraft is unrealistic. As long as you don’t attempt to do those things, it should be fine to watch them. That rule does not apply to all movies especially with movies with a lot of sex and cussing. However, I think you should tell your mom to check out Plugged In before she immediately says no to a movie. That has changed my parents minds on some movies. Hope this helps 🙂 God BLess
