My birthday is coming up and everyone has plans. Something that has really been on my heart lately is witnessing. I’ve never done it before and I’m super awkward and I have social anxiety. But I need to get over it and start sharing the gospel. Jesus said to go share the gospel and He also said if we love Him we’ll keep His commandments. I’m homeschooled so I don’t really get a chance to share the gospel much. So I was thinking on my birthday I could go to the mall and try to witness to some people. What do y’all think? Any advice?

Hey princesshunter! You know, witnessing is a crazy kind of thing. There’s so much to be said and talked about. I think it’s awesome that you are so in tune with the Holy Spirit that you feel him prompting you to do something. Witnessing is so important and necessary. Let me just open the convo by saying that there are many ways to witness other than “street evangelism”. You can most certainly witness through your day to day behavior that honors Christ. Living for God will be evident in your work ethic, school work, relationships, etc. and people will soon take note. Before you know it they are asking you “what’s different about you?” and right there is where you share about the Lord. But again, that’s just one alternative to person-to-person evangelism. Personally, I think both should be practiced together. In other words, you should always practice what you preach. Don’t EVER feel pressured into witnessing in the mall, especially if your social anxiety gets really bad. It’s ok if that isn’t you! I have NEVER done anything like that but I am still a witness to Christ in my daily life! It all comes down to what you feel the Lord leading you to do, and if that is mall witnessing on your birthday, so be it! Pray on it. God bless you! (:

Sweetie, that is such a wonderful idea. Sometimes it’s better if you go in group, so you won’t get overwhelmed when people ask questions(they definately will), and you need someone to be praying in the background for God to soften hearts and lead you to the right people at the time.
Evangelism is such a wonderful thing, it challenges your faith and others. God bless you for such a great idea

I think that’s an amazing idea! I remember how several years ago my sister wanted to do something special for her birthday. She wanted to share this special day with the less fortunate – the sick, the poor, the hurting. We couldn’t just invite them to our house as we didn’t have much of an opportunity at that time BUT we went about downtown that day and shared Jesus with the people who looked sad or sick or crippled. It was great! We bought ice cream for two disabled boys who apparently didn’t have enough money to buy it for themselves, and it was great, they were so thankful to Jesus. So if you have anything in mind it’s probably coming from God so GO FOR IT (:
