He’s my best guy friend, well at least on my end. I don’t know if he even considers me a friend. We were close but I don’t know what happened. J want to be close to him. I want to be that friend he can trust no matter what. He’s not a christian, he’s a superficial christian. He goes to camp and youth and says all the right stuff but I know he’s not. He’s struggling with some hard stuff and I’d wish he’d tell me and let me help. Anyways I’m ranting here but I was wondering if I should let him go. I don’t have a best friend. I always send the first text. I guess its just the longing for a good friendship. But if he doesn’t text me and he seems kinda distant, should I let hime go?? This is hard and any advice will help. Thanks ❤

First, before you worry about whether he likes you or not, consider whether he’s even a guy you should worry about liking in the first place. I know it’s hard not to like someone. But, you’ve said he’s a superficial Christian, or not a Christian at all. Are you OK with being someone like that?

You seem very confused about what you’re feeling about him. It sounds as though you’re putting all of the effort into your friendship, and he’s not reciprocating. With guys especially, I like to let their behavior inform mine. So if a guy texts me once in a while, I’ll text him once in a while. If he texts me more often, I’ll text him more often.

To me, it sounds like it might be healthy for you to let him go. No matter how hard you try, you can’t help people who don’t want to be helped. You can be there for him if he needs you but it doesn’t seem like he does from what you’ve said.

You will make other friends.

I wrote a post on my blog a few years ago that I think you might find helpful. It’s about dealing with liking someone you feel like you shouldn’t like and who doesn’t like you back. Here’s the link: https://damselsdigress.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/dealing-with-unwelcome-unrequited-love/

I know how you’re feeling. I’m going through the same thing.
