My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year. We’ve been though tough times with his parents’ divorce and other things from his past, and he’s working on his relationship with God. But recently I’ve felt… disinterested? I know in relationships with anybody there will be times when you don’t really like the person, but how do I know if it’s just that, just a dry spell, or if I’m falling out of love? I’m praying about this but I was hoping for some advice.

Hi, girl!
So first off I wanna say that it’s great that he is working on his relationship with the Lord! Personally I think that our relationship with the Lord should be the most important one in our lives and that is the one we should work on the most (easier said than done right?) befor I start dating someone I wanna make sure that God is the number one priority in both of our lives and I would pray that the closer we get to God the closer we would get to each other. Since you are already dating this guy my advise would be to work on your relationship with the Lord as well, really it’s one that we always need to be working on but especially when something or someone comes into our lives that threatens to place itself in our lives as more significant than God. If you do have a strong relationship with the Lord and are already working on it daily than I wouldn’t be too quick to break things off. Love IS NOT a feeling, when you get married whether it’s to this guy or not you can’t just put a relationship on hold based in your feelings. Love is a choice and it can be a tough one, the greatest example of love that we have is when Jesus died on the cross taking on the wrath of God that we deserved yet He was innocent. Maybe this guy isn’t the one for you but don’t base it on how you fell, seek God and His truth! He will give wisdom to those who ask
James 1:5-8. And remember that God’s love is enough, He makes us whole through the cross, the people who He puts in our lives are extensions to our lives and true blessings but not necessities. He is the ONLY one who can satisfy our every need.
I hope this helped!:)

Well, neither of us were strong Christians when we met, but we’re currently both working on our relationships with God. What I’m asking God is when do I be patient with my boyfriend and hope things will work themselves out, or when do I realize that’s never going to happen and end it? Gotta keep trusting God on that one 🙂 Thank you for your input! 🙂

So glad to hear you are both working on strengthening your relationship with God! That’s a tough question though, I’m going through something similar with the guy I like, wondering if I’m supposed to be patient and wait on him or let it go. But you’re absolutely right! All we can do is trust God. Something my little cousin told me when talking about art really stuck out to me, she was trying to tell me about an idea she had for an art project but couldn’t explain it will, she said, “well, only the artist can know the full meaning behind the picture”. When she said that it helped me to realize that God sees the full picture, he has filled in the details and has a beautiful plan in mind. We don’t have to worry about filling in the details, we just need to trust God and give Him the “pen” to create our story, we just need to be ready to listen and take action when He calls us to it. (Who knew a 8 year old could be so deep! Haha) That line was probably more for me than you;) I hope that it was encouraging in some way though!:) I will be praying that God will paint a beautiful “picture” for you!:)

Out of the mouths of babes 🙂 Amazing how something so simple and innocent can mean so much!
