Basically my family just moved vertically across the country because my dad’s a pastor. For 14 years we grew up in the NW coast. Then we moved to the SW desert for 2 years. Now we are back in the NW. People always were saying something along the lines of, “You’re back where you belong;” “You belong here;” “This is where you belong.”
The first couple times I probably shrugged it off and smiled in my way how I do when I don’t know what else to say. But then it irked me. How can people say we “belong” here, and almost in a way that seemed like “you shouldn’t have even moved” and almost like why waste those years away from a place you love? As Christians, we should know that our home is truly in heaven and that we shouldn’t store up treasures here and that what really matters is spreading the Word on earth then belonging in eternity in heaven. So, no. I don’t think we “belong” here. We are back to a place where we all love, but do we actually belong here? I think we belong wherever God calls us. God called us away from where we were the last couple years and brought us back to a location we like. But to say we “belong” here seems a little restrictive, and restrictive to what God has in store for our future.
What do you think? I’m trying to clear up my mind with these thoughts, but am also curious to what you think regarding whether we “belong” here in a specific area. How would you respond to people who say things like this?

I would say that we belong to Jesus. And wherever He is, we should be. But first we have to seek Him out on this dark Earth and know that is where we belong instead of somebody else deciding it for us. When people say “You belong here”, I really don’t think they are putting it in the context of us being with Jesus. Hope this helps! I would love to give you more advice if that didn’t help!

One of my favorite songs, by tenth avenue north, puts it this way.
“Cause we’re all strangers here.” And I think that sums it up perfectly. Jesus calls us to live in a way contrary to this world, to live as aliens among the people.
Personally, being who I am, I would probably look them straight in the eye and say, “REally? I don’t know about you, but I belong in heaven.”
