Have You Heard Flyleaf’s “Something Better” Yet?

Hey ladies, are you fans of the band Flyleaf? Their music ranges within the genres of hard rock, metal and post grunge. And although not formally labelled a Christian band, Flyleaf’s music reflects their values and beliefs as Christians.

As many Flyleaf fans know, original lead singer Lacey Sturm left the group at the end of 2012 and was replaced by Kristen May.

This week I’m featuring a new song from their recently released album, “Who We Are.” The song is “Something Better,” and it’s their first original song featuring May.

So what do you think of Flyleaf’s new sound?

Are you a fan of Flyleaf? What do you think of their new single?

im too stuck on Lacey and the whole sound she gave the band….
I agree with some of the other comments about the new singers lack of passion in her voice.

Hm…the only songs I listened to by Flyleaf are “I’m So Sick”, “Cassie”, and “Sorrow”. Honestly, I LOVE “Sorrow” and “Cassie”, not so much with “I’m So Sick”. Anyhow, I think this song is okay; I won’t complain if I hear it when I’m going shopping or if a friend plays it, but it’s a little too mainstream for me; it sounds to pop-like, to Paramore-like (nothing wrong with Paramore–Hayley Williams is talented, but her songwriting nowadays leaves much room for improvement. Besides. bands should be distinct and not sound all the same). I think Flyleaf should change their name, considering the fact they have a DRASTIC change.
Woo. Wrote a novel there. 😀

Personally, I love Flyleaf, they’re one of my top favorite bands of all time, right under Evanescence and Three Days Grace, but their new sound is just too “Pop” for me. Lacey had such an awesome rasp to her voice that Kristen just doesn’t have. Kristen just seems too sweet for Flyleaf. It’s not a bad song, just not Flyleaf to me.

This song reminds me of Paramore. I miss the old Flyleaf sound. 🙁

I think I have ever Flyleaf c-d, I love them but I really love Lacey so Im not fond of their new stuff. I have given the Kristen a chance but Im stuck on Lacey’s voice and passion she put into her music.

Dude, same! Kristen May has a pretty voice. It’s even similar to Lacey’s. She’s just so lacking in power and passion that listening to her sing songs that were Lacey’s is sad. 🙁

I heard the new song. Unfortunately.

Normally, I’m cool with bands changing their sound a bit. I love when bands experiment (Evanescence with The Open Door, for example. Super different, loooved it!). Changing the singer, sure, that’s fine.
But they’ve totally switched genres. They are now generic Christian pop. Which I detest.
There are so few good Christian metal bands out there, and if this new song is any indicator of what their new stuff will sound like, there’s one less now. 🙁

I really liked it! First time I ever heard of the song, and the band. The lyrics were really awesome! I’m hooked!

I really like it. I’ve been a fan for a couple years now, and even with Lacey leaving, I really like them. This song just continues to show that flyleaf is still supporting God no matter whose in it. I really want to see them in concert. Kristen May has a beautiful voice that I love just as much as Lacey. Flyleaf was my first christian band I listened to, besides Superchic[k]. Keeps getting better I feel!
