Good news, girls!!
For the past several months, I have been asking you to write me letters explaining how Cosmo has negatively affected you or your friends. I have recieved over 200 heartfelt stories from girls who regret mistakes they made because of what they read in Cosmo.
I started the Anti-Cosmo petition on Change.org and set it up so that every time someone signs the petition, all the major decision-makers get notified via email. This includes the CEO of Walmart, the CEOs of many major grocery stores, the chairman of the FTC Jon Leibowitz, and the senator of California. Please click that link and sign the petition! It really counts!
The first letter I received from the FTC was a polite blow off from the consumer response center. It simply said, “the Commission does not resolve individual complaints. The Commission can, however, act when it sees a pattern of possible violations developing.”
When I got that letter back, I became more passionate than ever. It is NOT an individual complaint! This harmful magazine is hurting thousands of young girls across the country each month!
The letter I just received is from the secretary of the commission himself, Donald S. Clark. It states that they are acknowledging the petition, and that they forwarded a copy of the letter to the editor-in-chief of Cosmo, Kate White. They copied her on the letter and stated they need a reply back from her, and sent it to me as well.
The best way you can help right now is to sign that petition. Tell EVERYONE YOU KNOW to sign it: Spread it on your Facebook page, tell your school principal and your teachers about it, anyone! Let’s make this viral! Here it is again: SIGN HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND TO PUT COSMO IN A BAG!!
Comment here if you got anyone to sign it– together we WILL change the world!
