I’m Too Busy, I Don’t Have Time to Pray!

Life is crazy! School, sports, homework, church, friends we have so many things going on that it can feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all! All of these things are important; each of these things demands our attention, but with all of the stuff, we have to do each day when are we supposed to pray?

Prayer is important. Prayer is like a rope that connects us to God. When we enjoy a regular prayer life – when we are spending time talking to God every day, then that rope is strong and we feel really close to God. However, when we don’t spend time talking to God – a listening for Him to talk back – every day, then our rope gets frayed and weak and it gets harder to hear God’s voice.

We are so busy though! When are we supposed to find the time to pray? My favorite time to spend with God is when I can actually set aside time to just sit in my favorite place and just talk to Him with no distractions, but that doesn’t mean it is the only time that you can pray.

Here are some ideas:

  • A friend of mine prays while she is walking from one class to another at school.
  • If you finish an assignment or test early in class, use the time you have left to pray.
  • Take 15 minutes to pray before starting your homework.
  • Say a prayer of thanks before you eat your lunch.
  • Take 15 minutes out of your Facebook time to pray! (I know this one is hard – I’m on Facebook a lot)

Those are just a few ideas that you can used to get started on energizing your prayer life, but I want to hear your ideas! Remember, prayer is just talking to God and then listening while He talks back. So, how are you going to start fitting prayer into your schedule?

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all believers everywhere. –Ephesians 6:18

I really try to be an honest person, and even though I’m working on growing in my faith I think it’s cool how others like me are struggling as well.

I recommend checking out “A Young Woman’s Call to Prayer” by Elizabeth George. I cannot describe how amazing and helpful it is to a teen girl! Also, I’m about to read (and my mother recommends) “Praying for Your Future Husband” by Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer.

    Heather,

a lovely woman I know told me that when God speaks to you, you KNOW it’s Him. You still have to get in that quiet place and say “God, help me to be still and listen to the Holy Spirit, teach me HOW to listen and what your voice is like. Send people my way to teach me how to listen to you.” He will speak to your soul if you listen and ask. Maybe not right away, it might take awhile, but He will if you ask- ask and you shall receive, right?! :D! So excited for you, I’ve been struggling with this lately, so I’ll be praying for us both <3.

I like to pray while I’m in the shower. Or after I hit the snooze button on my alarm in the morning,

hey Heather, there was a time in my life when i wanted to get close to god but I just didn’t know what praying really was, and i was alone in my journey with god that’s why there was no one i could turn to. I remember the day that I was so mad at God, i just started crying and talking to him. After i was done, he spoke to me and said sush, just talk to Me that is what praying is all about. But obviously, Satan had to come right then and say that’s not true, praying is not that simple and that is not god speaking to you……

And back then i couldn’t distinguish god’s voice and Satan’s voice. But right then, the verse that says, God is not an author of confusion but of a sound mind, came to my mind. And i took a hold of it. And today, its like god is right here, He talks back every time, even if its nothing huge. When i tell him about my day and there is something funny that happened, i hear Him laugh. And it feels good, like you are so important that God himself is talking to you, having fun………He is an awesome Daddy!!!!

So next time you get confused just remember what God said, That he is not an author of confusion but of peace, get hold it and tell Satan to go fly a kite……

If I don’t pray everyday,my day will not be good. I can’t stand when I forget to talk to God.

Thank you both Nicole and Jenn(: I prayed a couple times today asking God to tell me what He wants me to do. I feel like He has answered me many times without me even asking but I finally heard His voice! There have been many times where thoughts in my mind of great ways to serve Him and I think I will finally listen.. Again thank you both(:

Hi Heather – Sometimes if I’m not sure whether that inner voice is God or just myself I will ask God to help me by either taking away the thought if it is not Him because it is a distraction or I will tell Him that I am not sure if it is Him but if it is Him then I ask that He would continue to bring that thought to my mind over the next few days so that I can be sure I am doing what He wants.

God is faithful, He always helps us to be sure when we express our sincere desire to know and accomplish His will!

This really caught my attention. Especially when it mentioned God talking back. I always hear people who say God told me to do this and it got me this far. I was wondering, how do you know when He is speaking to you?
    —Thanks

Hey heather- Okay, so this is how I know he is talking to me: Tell God to remove any distractions from yourself, music, outside noise, etc. Ask him to clear your mind so you are only filled with his word. Ask him to have the Holy Spirit within you, and then pray. When you hear that inner voice, that’s you speaking to you- It’s actually God. He hears every word, and how you feel afterward, that instinct- is all Him. Let me know how it goes!

Prayer is really important. I’m getting back to praying a lot more throughout my day. For instance, if I’m in class and bored, I can pray and thank God.
