Lecrae: A Christian Hip-Hop Star on the Rise!

Many of you may have heard of Lecrae, an up-and-coming Christian hip-hop artist. Lecrae has impacted many people’s lives with his hard hitting, relevant beats, his touching messages and his powerful testimony.

Lecrae has overcome many obstacles in his life and now is passionate about spreading the gospel and helping the youth through music. His current album, “Rehab: The Overdose” is filled with amazing songs and collaborations–he even was nominated for a Grammy this year.

Lecrae’s “Boasting,” featuring Anthony Evans, is one of my favorite songs. He has such humility in the song, giving GOD ALL THE GLORY! Listen:

Lecrae’s music is filled with passion and determination to share the gospel with the next generation. His lyrics are full of power, and full of truth. Lecrae has such skill and even rhymes scriptures from the Bible in his songs, putting out positive, life giving messages.

One of his songs from the album of the same name, “Rebel,” is not meant to encourage acting out; rather, Lecrae re-defines it from a Christian worldview.

Here is a sample of the lyrics:

Jesus was a rebel, a renegade, outlaw . . . A sanctified troublemaker but He never sinned . . . and He lived His life by a different set of Rules . . . culture ain’t approve, so you know they had they had to bruise ‘em . . . I’d rather have a dollar in my pocket than a million, I’m scared to worship money, I’ll remain a rebel while the rest of them just carry on, this is what I live for, this the hill I’m buried on, if Jesus is the truth, that means one of us is VERY wrong . . . think about it.

Lecrae has had a successful year so far, including the release his most recent album, “Rehab: The Overdose.” Even famous artists in the secular industry are taking notice of this transformed artist. Lecrae’s lyrics are one of the top reasons he is flourishing-he doesn’t back down and doesn’t downplay his message for Jesus!

Lecrae’s music encourages me SO MUCH, and not only in my Christian walk. He inspires me to put out more powerful, truthful music. His lyrics, the scriptures he includes and the way he raps are amazing and powerful. The first time I heard “Boasting,” it impacted me so much it brought tears to my eyes. “Walking on Water” and “God is Enough” are fun, upbeat songs which I also listen to all the time.

Lecrae doesn’t rap about the same old money, cars, and bling like secular rappers. His music is MUCH deeper and hits right to the soul!

    Dude!! I am a musician for going on 7 years of piano. And I can honestly say that I HATE rap. But! Lecrea makes rap awesome.!!! I have his song, “Don’t Wanna Waste My Life” and I love it:) I got to see him perform it live at Acquire the Fire too! Best rapper everr.!:)

    Normally, I’m not a huge fan of rap.. BUT I LOOOVE LECRAE!!!

    yeah… he is pretty freaking awesome! speaks about god and love. i like his song unashamed. also listen to flame and trip lee if you like lacrae

    My friend and I love to listen to Lecrae in math class! Normally I hate rap… but when I get a car, I will be blasting that as I drive around town like the coolest, most blessed gangster ever to live ;-) hehehehe!

    Lecrae is soooo cool!!! I really like his songs “Wait”, “Like That” and Cash or Chrits?”. Another supperr awesome rapper is Trip Lee. Look him up on Youtube. I LOVE his songs “Intimacy”, “searching for Love” and “Superstar”. Every one should check these guys out. Their music is bumpin’ hot with a powerfully spiritual message.

    Yeah! I saw him and jamie grace in concert when they came to my hometown! i love all his songs! my faves are ” not gonna waste my life”,”background”, and ” jesus muzik”

    He is an amazing inspiring artist that I think we should look up too because his music has so much power and you really know what is behind the music he sings. You can also note that he is influenced by the Holy Spirit and God. That makes me truly happy because not so many artists allow the Holy Spirit and God to do this.

    I loved Lecrae since before this article,now I love him even more. Kids today say it’s all about the rap music,now here is a CLEAN rapper they can relate to and still be cool!

    I normally don’t like rap, but I love Lecrae :)

    I absolutely LOVE Lecrae! He has a way of getting the message of Christ out in this world, and his songs are a huge encouragement to me. I love Boasting. One of my absolute favorites! And Don’t Wanna Waste My Life is another really good one. If you haven’t listened to Lecrae, please do! He is amazing.

    I have his albulm “Rebel” and can honestly say it’s awesome and I love it! One of my favorite songs is “Rebel” because it’s message is just amazing and so truthful!

    I SCREAMED when I saw you did an article on Lecrae. In fact…I’m listening to “26′s” and “Represent” when I was reading this (I still am!) Lecrae is on the top of my lists of male role models. His music always has a great beat and message to it. I’ve listened to both songs and they are both encouraging. I cannot believe that some Christians think Christian rap is the same thing as secular rap. Check out my article “Secular Music Vs.     Lecrae is amazing! My youth-group got me started listening to his music about a year ago at a youth retreat, I’ve been a fan ever since! :) I love how he’s so sold-out for God!
    Another good song is “Never Look Away” by KJ-52, You should check it out!

    yes! i LOVE lecrae’s music he has so inspired me to stay strong as a christian! Its awesome that he can stand strong for what he believes when the hip hop culture is so…nasty, for lack of a better word… God bless him!

    I love lecrae!!! first i heard my brother listening 2 it and i was like really rap? and i actually thought Christians shouldnt listen 2 rap and then I just wanted 2 hear it. I did that like 4 years ago and now i love it. the lyrics are truly inspiring!!!

    I love Lecrae sooo much-he is by far my favorite Christian artist! He has had no formal training but he includes more spiritual truth in one of his songs than a Bible college graduate can in a thesis paper! If you really listen to the lyrics it is impossible to deny they’ve got a very powerful effect and are absolute truth.

    I looooove Lecrae’s music so much. He is so real about everything and it makes me think about the stuff that I am doing. He is such a blessing and I’ve seen him in concert. It was a free concert so a lot of people showed up, but there were too many, so 116 Clique decided to do another free concert right after the first one finished for all the other people waiting outside to hear them, too! It was so sweet! I love 116 Clique. If you haven’t listened to them, I think that you should! Their newest album “Man Up” is off the HOOK!

    I LOVE Lecrea!! My CMA youth group (no not country music awards :P ) had a girls weekend get together and almost every time we drove, Lecrea was blasting out the speakers- especially “walking on water” :D

    Lecrae is sooo awesome. I love his music video that’s displayed here, “Background”, and another video is “Just Like You”, and it shows how much we look up to those raising us. The first time I heard Lecrae was in concert, and I didn’t even know who he was! Trip Lee is pretty good too ^_^
