Lecrae’s New Book “Unashamed”
Written by Christi Given | January 17, 2016
Lecrae Moore (aka Lecrae) is a Christian and a hip-hop artist who has changed culture merging the Gospel message into mainstream media and making his music relevant in an anti-Christian culture. Not allowing a box to be put around him religiously, he wants to permeate the music industry with truth, and is “unashamed” to share his faith, the Gospel (the good news). Lecrae has been seen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, has been featured on TBN’s JUCE TV Network and MTV, and is also a winner of Grammy, Dove, and Soul Train awards. He is a leader in his own category; a modern-day disciple, proclaiming the John 3 message in the Bible; and willing to “Tell the World” in a fascinating and innovative way.
Next up for Lecrae, aside from his eighth in-studio album (set to be released after his new book comes out), is his message of Unashamed.
The book Unashamed (B&H Publishing) will explain Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Lecrae’s heart behind his music and why he does what he does. Lecrae also wants to break down his faith and what he believes. He wants to explain his faith in Jesus, and he explains the story (in an interview with Rapzilla) of the disciples with Jesus and when he said, “the gates of hell shall not prevail.” (Matthew 16:18)
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (Matthew 16:18)
The reason hip-hop artist Lecrae explains this story is because he wants his audience and people to know that in whatever sphere of influence we are in within community, family, friendships, jobs or on a platform, as believers, God has given us the authority and power through Jesus Christ to overcome the works of darkness, and WE are to be the unashamed cultural influencers, not the other way around. Gates, as he explains, are to keep people out, and so we are to overcome and keep out the enemy and the powers of darkness.
In a Christian Post article, Lecrae said the reason behind the book is:
“‘As an artist my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book,’ added Lecrae. ‘I want to be honest about where I’ve come from and what I’ve learned along the way. I want to influence culture, to help catalyze and inspire, and help other people find understanding. If they find some inspiration and some clarity for their own lives, as they follow my journey, then I will have succeeded.'”

If you would like to pre-order the book, go to unashamedbook.com for more information on the message behind his release. If you pre-order it before March 31, 2016, you will get to choose from a couple different free gifts: a free Lecrae song called “Illuminate” featuring Dria; an Unashamed T-shirt (if in the U.S. and while supplies last); or a possible opportunity to go to an exclusive event with Lecrae.
The book is set to be released on May 1, 2016, so keep your eyes open for this. It is going to be the precursor to his next album and project.
Lecrae, along with the Reach Records crew, has a saying called “116,” which is representational of Romans 1:16, which says in the Bible: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”
Hence, the word Unashamed for the title of his new book release.
