Loving Your Inner Beauty Series: Selflessness
In today’s society, people have become very preoccupied with SELF. In fact, I’ve heard many refer to teenagers as the “ME” Generation. As Christians, this should be quite alarming because Jesus clearly tells us this:
Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39).
I know there are many young people who still care about others. However, the unfortunate reality is that there are many more teenagers who are so preoccupied with making themselves happy that they don’t consider how their actions impact others. This is not Godly behavior!
SelfLESSness is an attribute that God adores! Consider how Jesus, who is GOD Himself, interacted with others. Jesus spent time with the sick, made it a point to feed the hungry, and honored the poor. He hung out with the people that “polite” society shunned.
John 6 describes how Jesus tried to get some time alone with His disciples, but when He looked out and saw the masses of people following Him, He put THEM first! He even sacrificed His own life for all of us.
Jesus never, EVER put Himself first, which tells us just how important selflessness is to God. Consider this: Jesus, who is GOD himself, put the needs of other people before His own needs! How amazing is that?!
Selflessness is such an amazing characteristic to possess. Watching a selfless person in action is so beautiful. When you think of TRUE beauty, do you think of the Hollywood actresses who may have physical beauty but are selfish and self-centered, or do you think of the humble, kind-hearted people who are always reaching out to help others? I, for one, think the selfless person is far more beautiful!
Here are just a few people who I find to be particularly beautiful from the inside out:
- Nicole Weider: Founder of Project Inspired
- Yolanda Adams: Gospel singer
- Kylie Bisutti: Model
- Maya Angelou: Poet and author
- Taylor Swift: Singer
- Joyce Meyers: Minister
- The Project Inspired Staff
- All of you
Girls, who would you add to your list of beautiful people?
NOTE: Please understand that there is a difference between honoring others and allowing them to mistreat you. Check back soon for an article to help you identify when someone is taking advantage of you and how to handle it in a Godly manner.

Yes, I agree that in this age we’re pressured a lot for things to be all about us but, first we need to make sure the focus is on God and helping others.
Being selfless also helps build friendships!
I would add my best friends to my list. Jesus was selfless to death!(Literally!) I freaking love Maya Angelou and Nicole!
Awww Paris I love you too!!
I would like to add Carrie Underwood. She has given so much to charity, shes helped kids in Africa, she has her own foundation for raising money for schools in her hometown (Checotah, OK), she’s saved a dog from dying, her heart belongs to God and she makes that very clear.
She’s so humble… I just LOVE her! (and her new song Good Girl!!)
I AGREE,ALMOST EVERY PERSON IS LIKE THAT TODAY.I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD BE SELFLESS. BECAUSE GOD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN PEOPLES LIFE.AND THE PEOPLE I WOULD ADD TO MY LIST ISMY BEST FRIEND HANNAH,ZOEY,ALISIA,VICTORIA,AND TORI.I WOULD ALSO ADD NICOLE.I LOVE YOU EVERYONE!!!!
