Miley Cyrus and Her Destructive Journey

I don’t know if 18-year-old singer/actress Miley Cyrus can be looked upon as a wholesome, fresh, and inspiring young role model anymore. Can she?

Her fans – young girls – look up to her as a pretty, confident, and talented woman. Although she may be these things, the fact that she smoked a hallucinogenic chemical called Salvia out of a bong at a friend’s party shortly after her 18th birthday throws the term ‘role model’ out the window.

Add to that her choice of movie roles. In her upcoming feature film LOL, The Huffington Post writes:

Miley Cyrus gets sexual, drugged out and even flashes her Brazilian wax at onscreen mom Demi Moore…

She is growing up and growing out of her Hannah Montana image, but she still has loyal fans looking up to her. Making shocking movies and smoking hallucinogenic chemicals is not at all okay and certainly isn’t appropriate for young susceptible girls to see. Unfortunately, her fans may think it’s cool after pictures and video of Miley have surfaced, showing her “having a good time.” This movie promises even worse images of the former positive role model.

I used to hang out with a group of young starlets like Miley Cyrus. Fortunately, some have their act together, focusing on their careers and their good reputations. But others have tossed their values out the window in a bid for quick fame. It’s sad to see the destructive journey that Miley Cyrus taken to get away from her old image. She used to be grounded and sweet. Has her quest for money and fame put this young girl on the wrong path?

I realize that she shouldn’t be looked upon as a role model. But, why bash her. She can make choices for herself, and we know that it’s wrong to go in that direction. If she thinks that this is what she needs to do to get famous or happy with her life she obviously needs help. But, until she agrees that she needs to change, what can we do but leave her be. Maybe her parents will tell her, or maybe she’ll figure it out on her own that she needs help. I just think that people on social media’s and magazines encourage this.

HelsMyLight ~ we can pray for her as a community. I promise you, praying can turn even the most coldhearted person in the world to the most goodhearted. why would God not answer our prayers for this young woman?

Yeah Miley Cyrus is trying to hard. Who is now is now what she is. She just wants to be noticed by shaking her “butt” around and everything. Just because you do something does not Make it Right Miley my dear girl. will be praying for you definantly. .

That’s not who you are Miley, that’s who you think you are.

its really quite sad. Herself and some of my friends see it as “genius” because it gets people to talk about her. It even angers me a bit that people think its okay.
-The BETTER way to get attention is to do good, and be a role model… if you want people to talk about you, you’d think she’d want people to say good things about her, wouldn’t you?

Lol, this article was written more than two years ago, Miley has fallen fallen down a loootttt farther down the road since then. I was never a big fan even when she was “ms. goody-two-shoes” but I still feel really sad for her, she must be miserable on the inside. The best thing we can do is pray for her.

Miley Cyrus has definitely changed and has changed for the wrong reasons. I mean look at what she’s done on TV, at the VMA’s. That was just plain disgusting and I bet that God is pretty ashamed that she did that. However, God is not done with her and I hope that she changes for the better with God’s help. 🙂

ok, I used to be a HUGA fan of Miley, but when she took the wrong road, I was really disappointed, but everytime I hear her name, or look at her face, I just get a feeling that God is going to do something great with her~ and I hope that that feeling is right.

Continue to pray for these young stars! Yes I do believe that God is not done with them! And as for ourselves, we should always pray for God’s divine protection to be upon us. Even when we fall, remember to come to Him in repentance and to turn away from our bad habits.

Recently the Hollywood industry and celebrities has been really pressing on my heart. I have been thinking about how young stars are being corrupted and not allowed the freedom to be who God created them to be. So they bend over backwards trying to please everyone–their fans, paparazzi, their producers and agents. Recently I have been praying a lot for the celebrities. They need Jesus. They need love. I encourage you girls that even those some of these posts are a little discouraging, we can change the situation with our prayers. God is not done with Miley Cyrus or any of the other celebrities. They are all someone for whom Jesus died for.

It seems as if once they’re off of Disney channel they don’t care about their reputations anymore. 🙁

Anyone can call themselves a Christian and act a totally different way. The problem here is that all the fame, glory, and temptation is too much for her to handle and she has chosen the wrong path to deal with it. The even bigger problem is she doesn’t have a fit relationship with Christ. What I mean by “fit” is a growing and maturing relationship. That’s what she is missing. We can only pray for stars like Miley Cyrus.

I am very disappointed in how Miley Cyrus has turned out, she is such a talented and very pretty person but I’m afraid that fame and temptation has gotten to her and caused her to have gone down the wrong path. I am in no place to judge Miley and what she has been through with her parents divorce and the pressure that she has received from being in the “spotlight”. Although, I do believe there is still hope for her. I do think she still believes in God but has not necessarily followed down the path God wants her go but all we can do is pray that she opens her eyes and see’s that she is a role model and as such she should show it in her actions but overall, its between her and God how she lives her life.

I was really disappointed when I saw her being provocative for the first time. Even on Hannah Montana I noticed her acting obnoxiously. I feel bad for her. As if she were my sister. I pray she changes her ways I think she can. I think she used to be a Christian. She is probably really confused by the industry. Isn’t there anything we can do to encourage her to return to her faith.

Just because she’s made a few mistakes doesn’t mean she’s no longer a Christian. Remember that one story in the Bible with the woman who was going to be stones because she hand been found in the act of prosecution? Jesus saved her by saying something like ‘Let the one who has not sinned cast the first stone’. Then, He proceeded to write down all the sins in the dust that the church officials had committed. Have you lived a perfect life so far? Have you never once told a single lie, disobeyed your parents, or said a mean thing to a friend or family member? My guess is you have, because no one’s perfect. I believe that she still believes in Jesus. But, if you have truly never sinned, than by all means, go ahead and cast the first stone at her.

That’s one of my favorite Bibke stories. But we are not throwing stones at her, we’re praying for her. We’re saying that this isn’t okay, and that we shouldn’t follow in those particular footsteps.

I used to like her back in the Hannah Montanna days, but noe I just feel bad for her. During the Hannah Montanna days, she said she was Christian, doesn’t look that way now…

I’ve read in teen gossip magazines that she has had to call the police on paparazzi invasions and that she wishes she had a nice, simple, life where she could do what she wanted to and not have to hide. The magazine also showed the way she changed during the past years fashion-wise. When she started out, she dressed cute and modestly, and in the latest fashion wardrobe, she wears nothing but this revealing black outfit. Oh, and she calls herself a Christian!?

Isn’t there anything we could do to encourage her to turn back to her faith? Write her a letter or something?

It’s heart breaking to see Miley like this. I used to love to watch Hannah Montana. But now i refuse to watch it just because of who Miley has become. What’s even more heart breaking is knowing thousands of girls are screeming for her at every concert when she wears shorty-mc-short-shorts and shakes her body in front of a camera.

I never liked her. I knew someting like this would happen. It’s the Disney curse.

      Yeah, and the Hollywood curse.

Instead of judging and putting people down, why don’t you love? Christians are called to L-O-V-E. Instead of talking about why this or that person is wrong, why don’t you make a change? Hollywood is ruining people’s lives. Girls that start out innocent like Miley Cyrus. Hollywood puts a teen girl on a platform like she is some kind of idol and excepts her never to mess up. There’s a few problems with that though. One, we are all humans and all sinners. The Bible says that we have all fallen short of the glory of God. So she can’t be perfect. Two, Hollywood and the people there are constantly lying to her (as well as other girls) and saying that this will make her cool or look better or be skinnier or get more attention. So after they put her on a pedastal, they set her up to fail! And all the paparazzi are quick to make her shortcomings known worldwide. I’m not saying she’s not responsible for her own choices. She is, like everyone of us. But I know I have my days when I’m far from perfect! I would hate it if my every move and everything I do wrong was broadcasted for the world to see. Before you judge and complain about this, maybe you should really think about what God wants. He calls us to love. We need to make a change. If we don’t, who will? No one. And Hollywood will continue tearing people apart while the world watches.

      Hi Abbey~
By this post, I’m not putting her down and I’m sure she’s a nice girl- I’m simply stating that she isn’t a very good role model anymore for young girls. Not only because she smoked salvia, but the incredibly inappropriate outfits she wears onstage to shock her audience goers, her pole dancing performance at the MTV VMA’s in 2009, among other things. The public and especially young impressionable girls are immune to this type of provocative behavior from celebrities, because it’s so frequent that people become numb to it. That’s what I’m trying to show under this ‘Culture Shock’ column: that many songs we hear, movies that we see, and celebrity antics- are in fact negative influences unconsciously- it’s just that we aren’t aware of it now and accept it as ‘normal.’

Exactly, Nicole. Many young stars are getting tricked by Hollywood to be something and someone that they’re not. But, only by God’s grace, can they be changed… 🙂

I think it’s so sad that her dad regrets her career. It killed their whole family. Think about it – what would you rather have? Fame and fortune that gets a great seat in a restaurant but destroys your family or a happy marriage and life? I would pick a nice boring happy life.
