Modest Is Hottest! Ariel Winter Is Beautiful in Blue and We Give One Star a Makeover!

Ladies, when you dress modestly, you allow people to focus on your character, not your physical being. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t look nice! You can still dress cute without looking sexy, and doing so gives others the opportunity to look to your heart and not get distracted by certain areas of your body.

With that said, check out this week’s selection:

Ariel-Winter

Ariel Winter

I love the classic style of this dress and the way it’s enhanced by the embroidery. So stylish! And the blue is so pretty.

Olivia-Palermo

Olivia Palermo

How cute is this orange ensemble? I adore the way the two pieces fit the body without being tight, and the ruffled waist with tiny belt adds a lovely feminine touch. Cute shoes, too!

Laura-Whitmore

Laura Whitmore

This two-toned cap sleeve dress is so elegant. I love the filigree pattern, and the the length hits above the knee, but is still long enough for modesty.

isla-fisher

Isla Fisher

What I like about this ensemble is the monochromatic look, and I love the pairing of the denim and blazer. However, the tightness of the pants and the visible bra under the sheer shirt reveal too much and make the outfit immodest.

Sorry, but I’m wondering how the “tightness of the pants” is less modest than the picture above where Laura Whitmore’s legs are actually showing? Regardless of my personal opinion, just based on what is here, I don’t think that’s a reasonable statement. I think she covered up well–no skin is showing at all…
but also LOVE the BLUE of Ariel Winter’s dress!

I love that third dress! It’s very elegant, yet youthful, and her accessories give a Kate Middleton feel to the look. The blue dress is also very pretty, and I like her hair, but she could have added some jewelry to glam it up a bit. Plus, that shoe color is washed up with her skin tone. The second look is overdone, gaudy, unflattering, and the accessories–yikes! The only good thing about this look is the peplum style of the shirt, but the rest is terrible. As for that last look, it was not only immodest, but very dull and monochromatic. A bright shoe color or a blazer in a brighter blue would have improved the look.

I like the first and second dresses. Thanks for sharing! I would absolutely love if you added a dress that Kate Middleton wears. She always dresses modest and classy 😀

i LOOOVE Ariel’s blue dress! it’s a cool color, i would totally wear that! Laura’s is cute too…and i would wear the last one WITH A TANK TOP, and plus i think you’re supposed to wear a tank top with that shirt anyway…it’s kind of like she forgot to completely dress herself!

I love Laura’s dress so much! It’s nice for a light colored spring dress 🙂

Isla’s pants don’t look very tight to me – They are just skinny jeans. You can see the ripples, which show how they are not skin tight. Skinny jeans, like hers, really are just tighter than other jeans around the lower legs. I don’t see her rear being squeezed tight in the jeans showing her rump off. But showing her bra probably wasn’t the best choice 🙂

None of them are really my style but they all r cute the last one just add a cami and it wuld be fine a pink or blue one that’s a bright color. The jeans I think are fine just make shure they are healthy for ur legs but the last one is just too much black looks dreary

I love the first dress! The color is almost Tardis Blue! xD Number two is nice, but really, it’s kind of weird, almost tacky… Number three is gorgeous, minus the hat. Number four is a great concept, but I think it would much better with a bright colored tank or cami underneath to add some color. And either white pants, or flaired out jeans would complement the ensemble much better!

Personally, none of the three outfits fit my style, but they would look adorable on some of my friends! Also, I don’t really agree with the last one completely. Yes, the bra showing is immodest, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with the pants! I love them! (:

I actually like them all! Except that wacko hat lol. The second one is more of a runway look, but it’s still cute! I love the colors and peplum:) I don’t mind the jeans on the last girl… the top is just very un-classy.

Between Laura and Ariel… thats a hard choice! There were some pretty good pics this week. Put a tank top along with Isla’s outfit and it would be perfectly fine. I honestly don’t think skinny jeans are too big a problem. I’d say if you’re having to squeeze into your skinny jeans, then they are waaay to tight, but if you can easily slip into them and be comfortable and not wear anything that would give you varicose veins, you are fine.

YAY! I like these 🙂 the blue is very pretty and I love her heels. I really like the pantsuit, actually. She is working it 😉 the third is a nice shape, just not liking the color. I LOVE Isla Fisher. In no way do I judge her, but I’d just put a cami underneath, and add a pop of color!

I see what you’re saying. I have definitely looked into it, and I firmly believe that Christians should not judge the acts of those who don’t know the truth. Everyone’s got their own opinion on it:)

      • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 11:22

i agree with you…especially since, like you just said, they don’t know the truth. but of course, even if we don’t hold non-believers accountable the same way we do fellow Christians, we still need to share the truth with them! 🙂 (and either way, the main purpose of these posts in particular isn’t to judge people’s acts, it’s to help girls learn discernment, so the modest makeovers are okay in this case, though it would be different if the main purpose was judging people’s acts).i’m curious, do you know of any Bible verses that directly tell if it is our responsibility to judge only other Christians or if we should judge non-believers as well? and sorry i keep writing long comments, it’s just nice to talk to other Christian girls about things and to know there are other teenagers out there that are still staying true to God! 🙂

    • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 05:37

just so you know, i don’t think anyone else ever means to judge the people wearing the outfits either. 🙂 like the girl that writes the modest is hottest always writes at the bottom, there is a huge difference between judging PEOPLE, and judging their ACTS (which is what we as Christians should do, we need to have discernment between what’s Godly and what’s not).

      • AllisonGrace

Posted by AllisonGrace on June 4, 2013 at 13:34

What business of mine is it and what right have I to judge outsiders? Is it not those inside [the church] upon whom you are to pass disciplinary judgment [passing censuring sentence on them as the fact require]? God alone sits in judgment . (1 Corinthians 5:12, 13 AMP) that verse is pretty clear! I don’t think it’s right to hold people accountable for something they don’t know they have to be held accountable for! I am all for the modest posts though:) and no worries! That’s what the site it for!

      • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 09:57

yeah, you do have a point on judging Christians versus non-believers…because there is actually an article Nicole wrote a couple years ago (it’s at the bottom of every modest is hottest) on the difference between judging people and judging acts, but she never said anything about if it was necessarily wrong or right to judge both Christians and non-believers. but, in the other article at the bottom of modest is hottest that i just read, it says to hold people accountable…and even though it doesn’t say “non-believers” directly, it was kind of implied i guess…so hmmm…

      • AllisonGrace

Posted by AllisonGrace on June 4, 2013 at 09:18

Thank you:) while I understand that the author is not trying to be judgmental, I believe that judgement is only appropriate from Christian to Christian, not non-believers. That’s why I struggle with the immodest posts. Thanks for your thoughts 🙂

wow um isla’s outfit really doesn’t reveal anything at all. her entire body is basically covered up. Yeah, you can see her bra, but you can’t even see her breasts clearly because it’s covered up by her blouse.

i’m getting so sick of you guys saying what’s modest and what’s not modest. I just don’t understand the point of showing them. Showing modest outfits is enough if you want to tell us how to dress modestly. And if you’re posting so called ‘immodest’ outfits so we wouldn’t wear outfits like them and tempt others, then you need to take a long hard look at what you’re doing on this website- Boys and gay girls are gonna read these articles and get just as ‘tempted’ as they would if they saw someone in real life wearing them.

Her Bra Shouldn’t be showing…Period. It’s called undergarments for a reason. It really is immodest in that area still. You don’t have to expose private parts to be immodest.

None of these dresses are my thing.

    • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 05:29

honestly, i ALMOST kind of agree that they shouldn’t put the immodest outfits on here…but they’re free to post what they feel is okay. and who cares if you can’t actually see her chest, you can see her bra which easily leads to thoughts about her chest, which is tempting guys to sin, which is sinning.

i’m just saying even if we THINK we know what makes guys stumble, we still need to be careful, and like i said, overly cautious.

      • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 14:23

okay…we all have opinions on modesty, and i will say this isn’t the best example of immodesty (though i still consider it immodest and wouldn’t wear it myself)…..and most girls say they should wear what they want, but as a Christian i firmly believe my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that i should treat it that way by not showing it off, and that i need to be cautious (maybe even OVERLY cautious) about what i wear because even the smallest things affect guys more than you’d think. i’m not saying there should be a law enforcing that all girls wear what one person’s opinion on modesty is, but as Christians we are called to be different, which includes not wearing clothes that show off our bodies. it’s okay to have our own opinions on modesty, but we should remember that even the least immodest outfit can still make a guy stumble. it’s just in my opinion it’s better to be overly modest than just immodest enough to make our brothers in Christ stumble.

      • democratic

Posted by democratic on June 4, 2013 at 13:42

i’m close friends with a lot of guys- both christian and non christians, and we talk a lot about other girls and their outfits and stuff like that- my non christian guys friends would laugh if they saw that picture being deemed as immodest. They would think that the jeans aren’t nearly tight enough, or that she’s not showing enough leg, or cleavage, because honestly, you can barely see anything in that picture.

My christian guy friends would be more conservative and say that it’s tacky that she’s showing the bra, but it won’t make them ‘stumble’ because YOU CAN BARELY SEE ANYTHING IN THAT PICTURE.

And wow, you know what, you’re right- they are free to post whatever they want. Just like how girls should be free to wear whatever they want.

      AGREE SO HARD.
Isla’s body is more covered than Laura’s (Yes, I know, tightness, sheerness, whatever. You can see more of Laura’s skin, though).
If a guy is going to “stumble” over Isla, IT’S BECAUSE SHE’S ISLA. Not because you can see a bit of her bra.

      • Shanell Is Here

Posted by Shanell Is Here on August 28, 2013 at 15:01

Wow… Such Ignorance in that statement. Your bra goes under your clothes, not to be revealed. Accept it.

      • Mandi Pi

Posted by Mandi Pi on June 4, 2013 at 09:42

you’re right, we can’t speak on behalf of all men…but if you really think about it, imagining you were (theoretically) a guy, you can clearly see how seeing a girl’s bra or some specific part of her body would easily lead to sinful thoughts (aka “stumbling”)…and plus, have you ever ASKED a guy? i’ll be honest, i haven’t, but i know a few really amazing Christian guys, and i can pretty certainly tell you they’d say something similar.

    • Arathay

Posted by Arathay on June 3, 2013 at 17:45

    • AllisonGrace

I agree with you in saying that it’s pointless to show the “immodest” outfit. It does more harm than good. It’s really hurtful when I see that the jeans she’s wearing are “immodest” when I own about 6 pairs.

AllisonGrace, don’t let it be hurtful that she said the girl’s jeans where immodest…because in my opinion the matter of skinny jeans is just that, a matter of opinion…i wear skinny jeans too, and i’ve seen in pictures that Nicole wears them too! (she’s not the one that writes these though, which is why it’s clearly a matter of opinion). there are some things that are simply NOT modest AT ALL, no exceptions, but skinny jeans could go either way really. and for this outfit in particular, it was really just the bra that made it immodest.
