Modest Is Hottest! Gabby Douglas Is Stylishly Chic and We Give One Star a Makeover!

Ladies, it’s not easy finding a modern fashion guide that’s modest, so I pray these Modest Is Hottest posts are of value to you. If you’re interested in a basic guide founded upon principles of modesty, check out my previous article, Style Guide for Christian Girls: Modesty, for some inspiration!

Now to this week’s Modest Is Hottest!

jessica-alba-kids-choice-awards

Jessica Alba

This is a great example of a modest dress, from the high neck to the perfect length. The bodice is fitted but not too tight or revealing.

kiernan-shipka-kids-choice-awards

Kiernan Shipka

I love this adorable floral dress. Again, it offers a lovely feminine shape without revealing the body. So modest and cute!

gabby-douglas-kids-choice-awards

Gabby Douglas

From its cap sleeves to knee length, this dress is so simple and chic. I love the hint of a high-low skirt, and the belt adds the perfect finish. Love!

diane-kruger

Diane Kruger

Sometimes it’s the subtle details that can make a dress immodest. In the case of this black lace ensemble, the openings on the sides offer a peek at the body from the side of the breasts all the way down to the leg. If the sides were closed and the underskirt a little longer, this dress would be beautiful and modest.

Which of our three modest looks is your favorite?

Is Diane’s dress see through, or does it have skin colored siding?

See-through. If it had a color panel under the lace, it would be so cute.

I believe that they are wrong because they are being hypocrites. And for proof of this plz check out my latest… oh what would you call it… post I guess ( 🙂 ) on the “random thoughts and question” section of “girl talk” there I made a post titles “Nicole wore the exact same dress as the other modest is hottest girl!”. I posted it there b\c they deleted it when I posted it on the comments section here (that must mean it was a good point)!

Please note this is not a personal attack on Nicole! I am merely trying to show them the error of their ways (which the bible does say that we should do).

I am trying to keep an open mind during this discussion. So if you think it that I am wrong I would LOVE to hear back from you. 🙂 Just please keep post a comment on a girl talk section. And I will see it!

        God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@applebypie well I would try to answer that one. But I do not want to risk spending a lot of time writing out something and then have the mods delete it. I do not even say mean things but the still delete my comments… only the ones with really good points of course. Of course you will probably never see this post before it gets deleted by a mod. 🙁

Alright, to avoid judging anyone, I’ve always used #1, #2, etc. to refer to the pictures and never used the person’s name. I’m making an exception now because I just have to say, I LOVE Kiernan’s name!!! This article is the first time I’d ever heard that name. It is just such a beautiful and unique name!!! Totally off topic, but I just had to say it. 😀

  11. Crossed1996

    Posted by Crossed1996 on March 26, 2013 at 14:44

I think the immodest dress could keep the same general style and be modest if the length was a bit longer, and there was a solid fabric underneath the sheer fabric on the sides. The sheer fabric adds detail, but it needs something underneath of it to make it more modest. I love these modest is Hottest posts, but I’d like to see outfits that are more common for everyday people to wear. I love dresses, but I rarely wear them, so I think it would be cool if a few modest is hottest posts included more casual clothes.

    • Marcy

Posted by Marcy on March 26, 2013 at 19:26

I LOVE the idea of a casual clothes one! Maybe even two a week, one for fancy celeb stuff and one for casual stuff. I love seeing the pretty dresses, but of course they don’t help me choose clothes to actually wear since I don’t wear many dresses and even then rarely such fancy ones. 🙂

    • Posted by Nicole on March 26, 2013 at 19:08

I love these modest is hottest articles, and I’m not going to change them. They are inspiring for me to find new ideas for me to wear! 🙂 I like that there is one that is immodest, so girls are aware of what’s not appropriate to show. If you don’t like these articles, just ignore them!

      • Project Inspired

        Posted by NatalieNoel13 on March 28, 2013 at 20:02

Tm, I think we should be allowed to vote for the immodest dress though, because our standards could be different. Plus we should get the option anyways, because we should have the freedom to chose. We shouldn’t have to be forced to chose. If our opinion is for the immodest ones, that’s our choice. Just because you aren’t letting us vote doesn’t mean we still don’t feel that way. It just makes us frustrated.

      • Crossed1996

        Posted by Crossed1996 on March 28, 2013 at 15:55

        Posted by catO13 on March 26, 2013 at 20:04

Well put Nicole! I compare this to a movie with with a few bad scenes in it. I would either not watch the movie, or skip over the parts i didnt like or agree with. I wouldn’t email the director and writer and demand they remove the bad scenes just so I’m happy. Even if many people agreed with me, they still wouldn’t change it because they chose to put it there! And there are probably many that don’t view that scene as a problem! Nicole is not trying to judge the person wearing the dress, just the dress because she views it as immodest. If you think the dress is fine, Great! Just ignore the things she says about it being immodest and get on with life! 😀

Nicole, I personally love these articles too, but I really wish that there was a choice to vote for the fourth dress in the Modest is Hottest articles. We would be able to see the pi girls opinion on ALL the dresses showcased, and would add a little diversity, don’t you think? 😀

      • tmgaouette

Posted by tmgaouette on March 27, 2013 at 10:13

@spyder PI offers guidance in being the best Christian that you can be. Offering immodesty as a choice would not be in the best interests of young girls looking to please Christ in everything they say and do. It would be against our principles.

  12. bethluvstheafters

Posted by bethluvstheafters on March 26, 2013 at 13:51

    • AllisonGrace

Posted by AllisonGrace on March 26, 2013 at 17:50

Simply switch out the immodest dress for another modest pic! It’s much more encouraging for the girls on here. I really do think it’s the best way to not cross the line of judgement. I have tons of respect for both women, but I would love to see another modest outfit, rather than one to fight about. Does that make sense? 🙂

@ Eurydice Everybody seems to have an opinion on here and yours is no more important than anyone else who is reading these posts. I for one enjoy the Modest is Hottest posts along with many other girls here. Yes, you have been perfectly clear about what you want, but that is not necessarily what t. m. gaouette and nicole feel is best. If you don’t like the articles DON”T read them! I would really appreciate it if you would stop being so critical of all the articles. It is very rude.

      • Eurydice

Posted by Eurydice on March 27, 2013 at 08:23

I thought I’ve been perfectly clear about what I want changed. The “Modest Makeovers” just need to go. The rest can stay, more can be added; I don’t care so long as the “Makeovers” go.

Posted by bethluvstheafters on March 26, 2013 at 21:07

I’d agree with that. That is probably the best. I was just asking since everybody’s shouting about changing the articles but is kinda floundering as to HOW they want to change them. Its ridiculous.

  13. leahgrace99

    Posted by leahgrace99 on March 26, 2013 at 12:46

I have been reading the “Modest is Hottest” posts for awhile now and I do truly enjoy the modest selections. On the contrary, I am beginning to agree with many other readers that the immodest dresses should be taken off. As young women growing up in today’s culture, I do not find it necessary to expose us to immodest and overtly-sexy outfits. That is just my opinion, and Project Inspired is allowed to do whatever they want, but I would highly recommend that there be NO more immodest dresses posted!

    • tmgaouette

Posted by tmgaouette on March 27, 2013 at 10:32

    • Godsgirl2012

      Posted by Godsgirl2012 on March 26, 2013 at 11:26

yeah, if you blur the heads, and dont say who it is, then, it becomes ALL about the dress, and we wont focus as much on the celeb, then theres no grounds for saying your judging the celebs, i dont think you need to get rid of the articles completely, just change it a little

      • MeghanHug99

        Posted by MeghanHug99 on March 27, 2013 at 15:52

I agree…I think that Christian girls don’t need to see that kind of stuff. I agree with Nicole that they should teach girls what not to wear but I don’t think you should show it….a do too think it is judging a little. You could simply just explain to us what not to wear instead of showing photos! 😀

      • tmgaouette

Posted by tmgaouette on March 27, 2013 at 10:07

People’s faces aren’t blurred in real life. As Christians we should be able to know the difference between a person and an action. If you are struggling with the ability to do this, then I pray that these posts help.

        Posted by NatalieNoel13 on March 26, 2013 at 16:23

That’s exactly what I was saying two weeks ago!! 😀 I so agree with this. I think everyone’s faces should be blurred though. And I also think there should be a choice to vote for the “immodest” dress.

      • Crossed1996

        Posted by Crossed1996 on March 26, 2013 at 14:46

Yeah that’s a good idea, because I do still like to see the modest vs. immodest, but we don’t exactly need to know who is wearing the immodest dress.

    • Project Inspired

Nicole I have seen pictures of you on THIS web-site wearing clothing that is just as “immodest” as the dress two weeks ago! Please stop judging people for wearing this clothing and take the log out of your own eye! These girls feel nothing but judged from both the secular world and a now an all christian web-site! They get news articles posted on every little thing that they do.

Also I see immodestly dressed people EVERY were! Can I not get away from that on an all christian girls web-site??

I do not mean this in a mean sort of way and I hope that it is not taken that way. I just feel really strongly about this and do not like that we are being ignored.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING NICOLE!!!!! And I know that you do not have much time but please do respond.

That’s not true, I listen to many PI girls and make changes, add cool things, etc. but I am not going to change these modest is hottest articles. I love them and they inspire me with new things to wear! Also showing one immodest dress is good because we can explain why certain body parts should be more covered up.

    • Eurydice

Posted by Eurydice on March 26, 2013 at 08:34

Why do you not ignore the Cosmo catalogs? We are told to stand up for what is right! Not just ignore it. So please do not tell us just not to look at the article we are doing what we feel is right. Please respond. thnx. 🙂

Nicole’s trying to protect young girls from looking at these magazines…young girls who may be tempted to look within the pages of a sordid magazine so they can read an article about their favorite young celeb on the cover…and in doing so, they’re exposed to the sexual content too. She isn’t trying to get rid of the magazine, just keep it out of the reach and sight of young impressionable girls. I find that admirable. Cosmo promotes sex, this site/post and Nicole’s Cosmo mission promote Christian values. I’m sorry, but I’m not sure how the two can be compared.

Ok, so I generally don’t comment on posts, but I just need to make a point here. Many of you who comment are saying that the writers of these posts need to stop judging others and pushing their views of modesty down others’ throats. Now, I would like you stop and think, what are you doing right now?? You are saying these writers are not respecting your views, as you tell them not to post theirs. Kinda hypocritical, don’t ya think? Secondly, it really and truly doesn’t matter what your opinions are. Because when our feeble opinions are held in comparison to God’s rock solid truth, well, there is no comparison. Modesty is not something we make the rules for. We are to honor God in EVERYTHING we do. This includes our dress. How can we honor God if we are willingly dressing in a way that promotes lustful thinking and attracts unneeded attention? How do you think it makes God feel? Since we as Christians are told “not to conform to the world” (Romans 12:2), then people should notice we are different. Not of the world. Do you really think we’re being good witnesses for Jesus when we dress this way? Also, there is a big difference between judging others and holding them accountable. And the writers of these posts are in no way being rude or judgmental. If it helps, stop using the words “modest” or “immodest”. Try using “God honoring” instead. It just might change your perspective. Thank you for reading.

Can I just say, I’ve been a christian my whole life. I work 3 services a weekend at my church, and I’ve been in innumerable bible studies, and I’ve converted many a christian. But these posts truly disgust me. I made an account JUST to tell you this. God does NOT tell us to judge people. He tolls us to keep people accountable and to accept people as they are. It is HIS job to judge. Not ours. You people are the ones giving us christians bad names. Our job is NOT to push away people from our faith! It’s to educate people for the good. God accepts people as they are and you should too. Your other articles I agree with whole heartedly! But these are just insulting. Good Day.

Posted by GigiJR on March 26, 2013 at 19:59

I think the real problem here is a misunderstanding of the purpose of these articles (& this website)
God does not call us to judge those who are outside the faith. The only thing we are called to do is make clear that God wants them to turn from their sin & turn to God. It purposeless for someone to try & fix themeselves before they have been washed with Christ’s redeeming blood.
However, (& this is important!) this website, to my understanding, it not an evangelistic site. All the articles are written for girls who are already saved & are in the process of being sanctified. Part of that process is learning how to honor God with your body. That is the purpose of these articles. It’s not about judging how godly the featured women are (I don’t think anyone is claiming that Jessica Alba is a Christian), it’s about teaching Christian girls what modest/immodest clothing is in popular culture. & for that purpose I find it very helpful.
Thank you Nicole/PI for sticking to a beautifully blessed purpose!

Guys, I don’t think she was saying that she’s a Christian because of those things. I think she was simply saying that she HAS been a Christian for a long time, and she’s done some of those things that has made her closer to God. Those comments weren’t very nice. :/

Can we just stop fighting?! You tell us to look at our own actions, but you guys are really putting us down. We are all Christians (at least I think we are) and we are fighting all the time. We are mad at each other and making personal remarks (I’m not saying it’s just you guys, I’m saying that it’s me and other people too.) But we need to all join together and bring each other up in Christ instead of bringing each other down. I know sometimes we can be demanding, us who don’t like these articles, and I’m trying to stop offending you all, but sometimes the rest of you forget that we too are teenage or adult girls just like you, who just have different opinions. That doesn’t make me better or worse, and you having another opinion than I do, doesn’t make you any better or worse. Can we just agree to disagree? I’m not going to back down from what I believe in and I don’t expect you to either, but I don’t see why we can’t all be respectful to the fact that we are all people with feelings.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest anyone should boast.” It DOES NOT matter that you’ve “worked 3 services a weekend at [your] church… been in innumerable bible studies and converted many a christian.” All those things DO NOT make you a Christian. You’re right, God doesn’t tell us to judge people; but it’s the not the people we’re judging. Do you think he gave us judgement just to tell us to not use it? No, of course not. We’re supposed to use our judgement to decide what we should do, think, say, and how we should behave in certain situations. I’m guessing you didn’t even read the last part of the articles where they addressed the people who said they were judging the celebrities. Maybe you should read those first and then come back to talk about what we’re judging.

And by the way, I have been hurt MANY times by the church. “Christians” have torn my family apart and drove us out of the church so I KNOW which “Christians” are giving real Christians bad names. Unless you have that kind of experience, you have NO IDEA. To be completely honest, it INFURIATES me that you would say this to us when you don’t have a clue. These articles are not pushing people away from our faith. These articles ARE educating people for the good. “Good day.”

Lotr1997, I am very sorry that you were also hurt by people who are supposed to be an example of Jesus’ love 🙁 The latest of mine was also very recent. I’m praying for you. I am holding onto a lot of anger (A LOT of anger) towards those people and I would really appreciate prayer for me to be able to keep my mouth shut from saying things that will only hurt others instead of help these situations if you don’t mind 🙂

I agree with you A2j! I have been hurt by so called “Christians”. My life was torn apart three months ago by people who claimed to have the love of Jesus in their hearts. Those are the kind of people that give Christians bad names! Most of us are not disturbed by the immodest dress, and the author of these posts have explained how they ARE NOT judging. Maybe y’all should take a step back and look at your own actions…

I wanted to apologize to all of you girls. I know that you’re tired of hearing my opinion on how I don’t believe that the modest is hottest is right, so I’ll stop speaking it. I’m not saying that I am changing mine, I’m saying that I will leave the matter completely alone now, because you guys know how I feel, so there is absolutely no reason I need to push a matter that has no many sides. So I hope there is no hard feelings.

I still kinda like the ‘immodest’ one. The sides are not really too bad compared to other dresses.

I don’t feel that a Christian site is an appropriate place to display immodesty. A lot of these dresses are quite revealing, and I don’t think a Christian site should be displaying them at all. I know there’s immodesty in the world and I even encourage conversation about it to learn how we should dress, but I do not think that a Christian site should be encouraging anyone to look at immodest dresses, even for the purpose of studying them. These are not appropriate images to be encouraging viewing of, even for the purpose of saying they’re wrong. It is one thing to see them because there is immodesty in the world. It’s another thing to have a Christian site showing them in their articles.

I don’t think it’s really something we need to be that “safe” from. Yeah it’s not ok, but we’re girls, we know what we look like. My friend always says “if you have something I don’t have, something’s wrong with one of us.” Seriously, no guys are browsing this site to see them, they’re not like victoria’s secret ads or anything, and it’s a sensitvity issue at the core.

You guys NEVER responded to my message to yall! So I am going to say it right here. I LOVE the modest is hottest sections!!!!! I think that they are a great encouragement. However I HATE the immodest EXTREMELY judgmental dresses at the end.

And even though you do not mean it to be judgmental, you are! B\c girls on here who see there fav celeb on here and yall saying that her dress is a bad example they say things like “Oh I did not know such and such dressed like that” there are LOTS of girls who say that in the comments sections! So even if you do not mean for it to be taken that way, that is still the way that it is coming across.

So the judgmental comments make the posts judgmental? hmmmm. I’m afraid I don’t agree. And I can only control my articles. I cannot control the comments of our readers. I’ve been very clear about the purpose of these posts!

Can you at least blur the faces of the celebs then Gaouette? That would make it way less judgmental!

Also yes the way that you are writing it IS judgmental. Oh look at what such and such was wearing. That is judgmental on YOUR part.

Also you can not get on the web with out seeing immodestly dressed women. Can I not even be safe from that on a CHRISTIAN GIRL website????

You could be “safe from that” if you just don’t read the articles.

That is how I feel. I deal with seeing immodesty all the time in day to day life. I’d like to be able to escape it on a CHRISTIAN site. (I actually escape it more on the secular site I hang out on.) I love seeing the first three dresses. They’re always so cute. But the last one kind of ruins it.

Ugh, the first one ha s a weird print. Second one’s okay I guess, but it’d look awful on me. Third one’s ill-fitting. Dat bulge next to her boob. O.o
Aaaaaas usual, they have saved the best for last. Love it. :3

I knew Gabby’s dress would be on here 🙂 I like Jessica’s as well, very classy. The second is nice, however I think the shoes are far to clunky for such a romantic dress.
On another note, I don’t appreciate the comment “if you don’t like the immodest dress, don’t read.” I love looking at the modest dresses, however it seems demeaning to put a seemingly “immodest” dress on here. I truly enjoy these articles, but I think they could be improved by a fourth modest dress rather than an immodest one. 🙂

I love these articles! The first dress is my favorite! So cute and feminine, and it looks lovely on Jessica! Not a huge fan of the second dress, mainly because it falls a tad higher above the knee than what I think is appropriate. Love the third one, the color is awesome, and so is the girl wearing it! 🙂 The last dress however… big no no, and it just looks/tacky in general! And before the weekly barrage begins, I would ask that everyone consider two things. 1: The woman who writes these articles is in no way obligated to do what we want her to do, and cannot be expected to please everyone. And 2: You have been told this before, but if you don’t like it, don’t bother reading it. There are lots of girls on here who love these posts.

I love the fabric on #1. The style is very classy. The purse is a great addition. I absolutely love #2. The fabric and style are SOOOO cute. I really would love to wear that dress. The black shoes just add to the greatness of the look. I love the look of #3–the colors working together, the different color on the sleeves, and especially the black sash. The shoes and bracelet go with the outfit perfectly. I love #4’s simple style. The lace would look perfect with the black material under it or even better with a different color (perhaps a color similar to those lovely shoes) under it to contrast. The blue heels are a great choice to both match and contrast with the black dress.
