Purity Movement: Fashionista Says No Dating for Over Eight Years and Starts “Plain Jane Project”

Rowena-Rodriguez

Rowena Rodriguez is a sexual integrity speaker and founder of Plain Jane Project, a ministry of purity for singles—women, men and youth. Rowena was in the fashion industry, and is a fashion lover and career woman. She not only handed over her fashion career to God and put on the “garment of salvation” (love this analogy), but she also gave her love life in the dating world to the Lord. (Ahem, for more than eight years…what a beautiful woman of faith!) Once she became a follower of Christ and surrendered to God’s will for her life, she started to birth the idea of the Plain Jane Project, which “raises the standard of purity for this generation and the generations to come.”

The Plain Jane Project is now for guys, too, and is called the Plain Joe Project, teaching and encouraging men in their purity and walk with Jesus.

Here is a description of Rowena’s ministry from her website: The Plain Jane and Joe Project™ “welcomes our brothers in Christ into the conversation of purity and beauty. Through prayer, teaching, coaching and mentoring, PJP introduces and encourages practical living by building on faith, trust, integrity, communication and listening to grow strong and purposefully, individually and in community, as members in one body of Christ.”

Learn more about Rowena’s ministry and the events she holds, such as the “Puri-tea Party” with worship and guest speakers who talk about the needs we have for love, approval, preparation for marriage, the cost of purity and more. On her official website, she has several ministries, such as the “Ministry of Purity,” “Ministry of Beauty” and “LeadHERship.”

Here is an example of her beauty ministry, which is about true inner beauty:

“Plain Jane Project™ hosts MAKEUP Your Mind™ The Biblical Beauty Workshop! This is not your typical beauty event! Hear messages on how to stock your beauty arsenal and what you need in your spiritual makeup kit! Whoever said that beauty is only skin-deep didn’t read the owner’s manual! (Deuteronomy 29:29) Since the beginning of time, we’ve been trying to capture and bottle the nature of God. In the process, we have perverted the very beauty we are striving to attain. From cosmetics [to] essential oils, skin care, hair care and anti-aging products, human-kind is fixated on capturing, enhancing, maintaining, restoring and retaining beauty. The truth is, we cannot separate God and beauty! Without God, beauty will cease to exist.

Here is a message from one of Rowena’s events called “No Man for Many Days”:

Rowena discusses hot topics on her website and in her ministries, such as “Hooking Up with JESUS?”, “Holiness” and “Why Virginity Is Not Holiness.” She also covers topics like where do you draw the line on touch, lust, perversion, purity, attraction versus distraction, purpose in singleness, beauty in the heart, the significance of marriage preparation and more.

I love Rowena’s passion for holiness and righteousness as a lifestyle and posture of the heart. As she expresses in her ministry, purity isn’t based on virginity (although that is special and sacred); she also emphasizes the significance and importance of an upright heart. You can be a virgin, but still have a heart that is lustful. You can be married and still not be pure because your heart isn’t aligned to God’s Word. God cleanses us with the blood of Jesus, removed all stains and blemishes, and yes, we need to live a godly lifestyle, which reflects our devotion to the Lord, but the actions do not save us. As you draw closer to the Lord, your actions will eventually match your beliefs, which are the outcome of being in love with the Lord and a DESIRE for obedience.

Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering…
(1 Samuel 15:22)

As Rowena shares her story and testimony of being faithful to God’s call of no dating for almost a decade, she really emphasizes and clarifies that this is more than just a choice—it is obedience. Of course, Rowena has temptations, too, but I love her boldness in being set apart for God’s purpose and glory and for paving the way in leadership for young women and men. We need more people in the body of Christ like her. People to stand up and be a bold witness unashamed of circumstance. So many times we allow our situation(s) in life to dictate our worth and who we are.

Listen, being single or barren with no children, or even jobless, DOESN’T define you…if you are a believer, then your adoption into God’s Kingdom defines you and you are a DAUGHTER OF THE KING. You are royalty! You are blessed, loved, cherished, precious, adored by the Almighty God! It doesn’t matter about your past, who you have dated, are dating or what has come between you and God because a repentant and contrite heart and spirit renews your relationship with God (Psalm 51:10).

But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for HIMSELF: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
(Psalm 4:3)

…put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (Colossians 3:9-10)

Jesus died on the cross for us more than 2,000 years ago to pay the price of sin and death. Jesus stepped in for you and me. He paid the price on the cross and said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30) Jesus knows and understands. Where are you in life right now? Are you honoring God with your heart and mind? Do you constantly idolize having a boyfriend or husband, or always need attention from guys? Let Jesus capture your heart and focus on the plan God has for you! Guess what? God’s Word (the Bible) says that when you focus on HIM first, then ALL those things will be added unto you! (Matthew 6:33) No, life doesn’t always happen our way or in our timing, but God is developing you, strengthening you and molding you into the young woman of God He intends for you to be.

Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
(Isaiah 40:30-31)

If you stay faithful in your relationship to Him, then He can give you an earthly relationship and you can then be faithful in the longevity of marriage. Trust God, seek His Holy Word, pray and be a light and leader to those around you. Don’t complain about not having a boyfriend or guy—rather, enjoy the season God has placed you in, and remember that the Lord is your shepherd and takes care of His sheep. He will not forsake you. He will lead you and order your footsteps. God loves you and has a plan for your life. Jesus, the Son of God, died on the cross for you so that you may have abundant life (John 10).

Do you believe this? Let us come together as a sisterhood in Christ, and strengthen one another, reminding each other our worth doesn’t come from our “relationship status,” our height/weight/beauty, but rather, INNER beauty is what really matters.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. (1 Peter 3:3-4)
