Summer Fashion Dos and Don’ts: Part 2

TAGS: , ,

PI girls, we discussed the Fashion “Dos” in Part 1 of my summer fashion article. Now we will be giving you tips on what NOT to do.

 1. DON’T: Wear short shorts

Jean shorts are cute in the summer, but not when they are skimpy like the ones above. Make sure they are at a normal length, not acting as a bikini shorts!

2. DON’T: Wear skimpy bikinis or wear “cover-ups” that don’t cover you up!

3. DON’T: Use too much spray tan!

It is so important to protect your skin and wear sunscreen. It is wise to use a minimum of SPF 50; if you do decide to use tanning cream or sprays, don’t use so much you turn orange!

4. DON’T wear too much eye makeup

In the summer, go for more a clean, clear face for a bright glow and look!

5. DON’T: Wear super low cut shirts or ones that bare your midriff

Also, don’t go to the other extreme and wear hot sweaters in summer.

6.  DON’T: Wear sandals with socks!

7. DON’T: Mix too many patterns

Floral patterns are in, but match with a solid for a balanced look!

8. DON’T: Have chipped nail polish

9. DON’T: Forget a sun hat!

It is important to avoid skin damage and extra sun exposure. If you think you will be in the sun for a long time, wear a cute, fun summer hat!

10. DON’T: Skip an undershirt

Lace and cute sheer shirts are in this season, so you will want to stock up on plain white or cream tanks. I love spagetti strap undershirts for coverage.

PI girls, I hope you learned a tip or two about summer fashion DOs and DON’Ts!  Are there any other tips you would like to add? Comment below! Happy *almost* summer!

But I like socks with sandals! Just kidding…;-)

  2. Deeblves3

I have a question about the chipped nails? What shows when you have that?

  3. pinkgodlover

i think it’s crazy that some people wear a jacket and leggings when it’s like 80 degrees outside

    • pinkpenguin318

That’s another good one!! Dress to the season. I don’t get why people would wear a jacket, jeans, and sneakers with socks when it’s 80 degrees outside. Not saying you have to wear those pervy short shorts, but at the most wear a cardigan with your shirt and capris if your not a huge fan of showing your skin off.

    • sisterwhocares

Or booty shorts and tank tops in 20 degree weather!

To add to not wearing chipped nail polish: I absolutely love stick on nails :) They stay on for about 2 weeks, they are easy to put on and take off, and they look way better than I could do them myself ;) I buy them at Walmart for about 5 dollars.

I have a tip. Don’t were a pair of capri’s with socks. Go with sandals or flip flops.

    Is it any good?

    • pinkpenguin318

I love it! High socks and capri’s are like the socks with sandals trend. But if you are going to wear sneakers of any kind, wear “ankle socks” if you don’t mind the feel of them.

  6. KPriorify

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I love the socks with sandals :)

  7. Project Inspired Member

I love jeans shorts but i always watch out that they are not too skimpy and cover my butt cheeks lol

Wearing Jeans with flip flops is another “dont” you should keep in mind. its like, you want to be warm in the long pants, but you want to wear summer shoes? it doesnt make much sense to me. I dont know what other people think of it.

    • Dee

      haha unfortunately I d this a lot. :D But it’s more of an I-don’t-like-to-wear-shorts-but-I-still-want-to-be-comfortable thing. :D

  9. Thanks so much for righting this. It breaks my heart that girls my age try so hard to stay in style by going skimpy and wind up looking trashy. It’s nice to know there is a way to stay in style and stay modest. I love the hat idea! :)

I love using nail polish but the polish always chips the same day, even with top coat. Any tips?

    • Project Inspired Member

It sounds like its either too old or it’s cheap nail polish :) to make mine stay on I do a clear base coat, 2 or 3 coats of color until it covers the whole nail, then a clear topcoat. Make sure to let each layer dry completely or they will turn gummy or peel off :)

I’m a big fashion fanatic–I’m not going to lie. This is what I think of summer trends:

I agree with you on the amount of skin you show. Don’t wear anything that attracts guys for all the WRONG reasons. Who wants to see your underwear or bra or your chest falling out of your bra?

Floral prints are awesome and huge this spring/summer season. But balance them out with a basic matching shirt, such as a solid-colored dress.

Socks with sandals will eternally be a major fashion no-no. Not like it matters, but it does, if you get what I mean.

Don’t do chipped nail polish. Always take the time to touch it up. And keep your nails fresh–pastels are awesome, and coral looks good on everyone. And don’t spend over $10 on nail polish or make up of any kind (except perfume, face cleaner, lotion, etc.)!!

Tan wisely. Always wear sunscreen. Like that photo of the feet with the ugly flip flop tan, darkening that ghost-white skin can look ugly if you do it wrong and don’t use sunscreen. Not only does burning look bad, but it seriously can cause cancer!! (Just ask my grandma, who had stitches on her face because there wasn’t sun tan lotion back then!)

Always layer. It’s been a trend for quite sometime, and there’s nothing uglier than a see-through shirt that you can see your bra in. Or a

These are good, and some just common sense. What’s the point of a coverup if it doesn’t COVER UP, right? Thanks, these are awesome!! ;)

  13. Project Inspired Member

Haha socks and sandals. I am guilty of wearing clogs and socks in the summer though lol

  14. xJesusLovesYoux

i saw the nail polish brand and thought “capitol coture!!!” -hunger games refrence- x]

  15. Project Inspired Member

I dont like it when my nail polish gets chipped but it always does and i dont know why!!! :(

  16. Project Inspired Member

There’s nothing wrong with socks and sandals…they aren’t immodest or anything. If you can rock it, ladies, go for it!

    • sisterwhocares

I think that its a fashion coordination thing more than a modesty thing; that’s why she included it. I didn’t know people can rock socks with sandals

  17. sisterwhocares

Uh oh, I’m a big culprit for #8!!! Btw, I like how in this article you didn’t just include modesty no-no’s (which are sorta obvious for regular visitors of this site) but practical advice that you wouldn’t normally think of otherwise. Especially the spray-tan thing (the picture was funny!)

    • Project Inspired Member

The spray-tan picture is kinda stupid. I tan very easily and I have really bad tan lines from flip-flops… that picture could easily be a girl who is naturally tanning from the sun!

  18. Paris

Good tips. Espcially the ones about showing too much skin.

While I agree with you that modesty is important, I think your approach in this article could be improved. Did you know that one of the main reasons people avoid Christianity is because they believe it’s just a list of do’s and don’t's? I’m not a Christian because of any specific rules or regulations, and I don’t think that you should spend an entire article telling girls what they should and shouldn’t do. Even Jesus didn’t do that! He respected the dignity of people and did not try to boss them around, even if he didn’t agree with what they were doing. Besides, who are you to decide what is modest and what is immodest? Next time you right an article like this, I would reccommend being more careful about how it is worded, and try to make suggestions, not rules. No girl needs more people telling her what she can and cannot do.

    PI klau

I TOTALLY agree with the undershirt thing!

  22. Project Inspired Member

Booty shorts may make you feel sexy, but they attract the wrong attention.

  23. Project Inspired Member

Don’t wear chipped nail polish? XD

  24. Project Inspired Member

true dat! i wear shorts all the time.. they look shorter cuz im reel tall… so ya i have to for marching band though… i have an excuse! i think shorts are ok.. just not torn up ones that they were showing!

  25. irina1997

what kind of cloth do we wear to school???????????

  26. Project Inspired Member

I hate short shorts but I hate them even more when they look frayed like that. My general rule for shorts is that they have to be finger tip or below or you put your cellphone or something else you always have in your pocket. If it sinks below the shorts so that you can see the pocket liner stuff, they’re too short

  27. PumpkinGirl

On the chipped nails part… I have the EXACT SAME POLISH!!! :D Yes, random… I know, but it’s just SO COOL FOR ME!!! :D
