Teen Choice Awards 2012 Fashion: The 10 Best and Worst Dresses
posted on July 25, 2012 at 9:58 am
Hey ladies! Did you get a chance to check out the styles at this year’s Teen Choice Awards?
The offering was definitely eclectic, but it was easy for me to determine my favorites. My choices have very little to do with the people wearing them. I am judging the outfits based on their modesty, appropriateness and style.
Below, you’ll find 10 dresses that I selected from the event. Some I liked, some I really didn’t like, and a few have a mix of positive and negative features. I put them in order from worst to best. I hope you enjoy my selections!

1. JoJo, I believe, is wearing the most immodest outfit out of the 10. It’s tight, it’s so short and it’s so inappropriate for the Teen Choice Awards.
2. Next to her is Jordin Sparks, who surprised me with her dress. I’ve not researched her fashion history, but I don’t remember her dressing sexy before. The plunging neckline and short skirt are immodest and I don’t think the style works for her.

3. Carly Rae Jepsen’s skirt is just too short, and the design of her outfit doesn’t seem to work. Just like Demi Lovato’s dress, the pattern is chaotic.
4. Lovato’s dress is also a little tight. She needs some room to breathe.

5 & 6. Selena Gomez and Miranda Cosgrove are wearing pretty dresses, but they both have the same issue. Can you guess? Yes! They’re just a little too short, in my opinion. Gomez’ dress also had a very revealing neckline and her cleavage was out for the world to see. When choosing a skirt length, you really need to select something modest, and the big test is to sit down in it. I’m pretty sure these skirts would rise too high once the ladies sat down. The dresses themselves are very chic. I adore the color and design of Gomez’s dress and Cosgrove’s dress is so unique. A higher neckline for Gomez and a couple more inches on both and they would have been perfect.

7. Victoria Justice chose a fun, flowing dress, which I thought was modest, although the high part of the high/low skirt could have been a little lower.
8. Taylor Swift always picks a beautiful, angelic dress–except for this one. I’ve noticed that Swift has been getting more daring as each major event comes along. This dress looks great. Flowing, the perfect length, a great modest neckline, very feminine color, but…the back is missing. Actually, there are a couple of straps back there, but they reach down her bare back and attach to the top of her waist. The design was very revealing from the sides. That was disappointing to me. I pray that Swift doesn’t continue trying to add more and more “sexy” to her style.

9. Zooey Deschanel is wearing one of my favorite dresses. Yes, your first instinct may be to call it boring, especially when compared to the usual offerings we are faced with. But honestly, it’s lovely and feminine and the color is gorgeous. No, it’s not a dress we see very often at these events, but I wish it was.
10. Lucy Hale is wearing my favorite dress of the 10. It’s a pretty but modest dress with fun, square cut-out shoulders. It’s the perfect color and length, and it looks great on her.
Now it’s your turn. Take my list and put them in your order of worst to best. Have fun! What do you think of my choices?

I miss Demi Lovato’s dark hair… :/
also, I loved Victoria Justice’s dress. and Miranda Cosgrove’s altho I do agree it was a bit short
I miss Demi’s hair too
haha i miss it too. it was so gorgeous
I don’t see anything wrong with Selena Gomez, Victoria Justice, or Miranda Cosgrove. None of them are too short. Especially not Victoria Justice’s.
I agree Haley
My fav is Victoria justice’s dress!
There were a few things that bothered me while I watched the TCA’s for the first time ever.
1) Demi Lovato’s wardrobe. She is so beautiful, but the dress was chaotic and immodest.
2) Taylor Swift’s dress. It was very showy and immodest as well. The back and sides were way to open. If I were her I’d be afraid it would fall down!
3) A lot of the stuff they talked about was stuff (like movies and shows) that was very inappropriate that really only adults should watch. I don’t think I will be watching the TCA’s next year.
Also, about the dresses above, I don’t think that Victoria’s or Selena’s are too short or showy. My favorite would have to be Lucy Hale’s. It’s very girl and fun looking.
I generally dont mind the open back as long as its not to low. I like them when they open to the middle of your back, but much more is too much.
I think they all look beautiful and I appreciate that they all have their own style. I do not think a short dress makes someone immodest. I think it is a beautiful thing for a woman to be able to show their body which is a beautiful piece of artwork made by God. I mean Adam and Eve did not wear any clothes in the Garden of Eden until they bit they apple which made them aware of their nudity and made them want to cover up.I think just as long as the overall look is respectable and classy (as I think most of them are) then there is nothing wrong with showing a little leg or cleavage! Just my opinion!
i LOVED taylor’s dress (or at least the front
)
I agree completely
not to be disrespectful to Nicole, or to T.M. Gaouette, but sometimes things on here go a littttttle over the top. I work out a lot and am very proud of my body, and I don’t think it’s a sin for me to want to show it off just a little. Otherwise what’s the point?
Selena’s, Miranda’s, Victoria’s, and Taylor’s dresses are my favorites. I do think Selena’s dress is a few inches too short but the dress is very girly, pretty, and in most ways, classy. Miranda’s dress is unique and beautiful. I think Victoria has the most beautiful dress because it’s fun and feminine without being too revealing. Taylor’s dress is angelic and beautiful but, I agree, it’s a little more revealing than what she usually wears. Demi looks like a white version Nicki Minaj in my opinion.
@SweetSurrender – I couldn’t agree with you more about Demi. lol.
In my opnion..i think they all look very beautiful that night. So i think we need stop judging other celeberity girls because something is to short a little rude.Jordin Sparks is wearing something different because she just lost 50 pounds! Which is great!!. You are very judgemental for someone who is a christian…
I agree 100%!
I agree
Same- like I understand we need to stand up for our beliefs as Christians, but to write an article on someone online just because they’re dresses were short? You don’t think they get enough of that? (I’m not mad at Project Inspired at all- I am genuinely confused. If you wanted to write about modesty, there are other ways to do it that Project Inspired has done)
You are using the word judging in the wrong way. It is okay to look at someone and say that you think they are doing something wrong or something that is against the Bible. I’m not saying that these girls are because the Bible doesn’t give exact rules for modesty. However, we are allowed to say that as Christians. However, we aren’t allowed to say whether or not someone is going to Heaven or not. That is not for us to judge. That’s what the Bible means when it says to judge not.
AKFURRER: You are completely right in that as Christians God does allow us to think for ourselves. While it may be okay to personally think “I would not wear that because I would feel uncomfortable with the length or the neckline,” it is still wrong to think badly of someone just because you don’t agree with their clothes. It’s just like that old saying “Hate the sin, but love the sinner.”
This is exactly what I’ve been trying to say all along. While I agree that modesty is important, I don’t think that bashing celebrities is doing anyone any good. As Christians, our job is to reflect God’s love and glory, not to push non-believers away by criticizing them
That’s true
Selenas
It was to short but I kinda liked it
I think you need to back off a little. I mean, their dresses aren’t THAT short. Besides, if you think about it everything is short nowadays. Not that that makes it right. But they weren’t all like Jepsons. Although, I do think Jepsons is cute even though her skirt is quite short. It’s not that the top two are innapropriate its more they dont work for the people wearing them. Though, Jojo’s does look too small. Everyone elses was absolutely adorable. I didn’t like Lavato’s. But only because of the print. Oh, and taylors dress is probably the prettiest. You should lay off, ITS HER BACK NOT HER BUTT! :/ I ussually agree with most of your blogs. Not with this one. Sorry. I’ll continue to read though!
Oh, I love the blue and the orange dresses! So modest! And the others? I would say no way.
this is great , i don’t think there is anything wrong with Taylor’s dress. it is only her back i mean but what about bikinis? you show it then! the other dresses i agree with, and demi’s was just atrocious
I’m sorry, but I usually DON’T agree with your blogs. You just seem to think you know sooo much about the fashion and celebrity world. No offense. It’s just annoying…
Haley, she knows that boys in this world are really affected by immodesty, and when they see that, they are very attracted(in a VERY bad way!) to the girls wearing the dresses. T.M. actually shows us that some of the styles here are not right and good for Christian girls to be wearing. Because part of our job as Christian girls is to protect and love our brothers in Christ and protect their minds as much as we can! T.M. is helping out some of us because I know a lot of girls that, even though they’re strong Christians, wear really tiny short shorts and shirts that are way too low. For me, I wear shorts that go to my knee and I always cover up on top. She does know a lot about the fashion and celebrity world. She is older than us, so she has more maturity and understands what is modest way more than we do.
Go, T.M.!
Love, Audrey
I totally agree with Ginger. Besides T.M. isn’t claiming that she knows a ton about fashion but simply pointing out which dresses she liked and didn’t like from a modesty point of view.
During the actual show Demi Lavoto wore a white shirt that could have been cute if she hadn’t cut a large slit down the center and allowed her breast to be so exposed.
P.S She changed before she gave out the Inspire award into a more appropriate shirt.
I would’ve put them in the exact same order!
I agree with all of your comments!
I loove Victoria’s dress! She looks gorgeous. I really like the color of Selena’s, but I do wish it was a little higher. I don’t like Jordan’s or Demi’s. Lucy’s dress is pretty. Not sure if I’m crazy about the style, but the color is pretty.
it is not our right to judge people so will everyone please stop saying that t.m.gautte is to judgemental it is not our place to say if she is to judgemental that is for God to say if she is or not.
what i meant to say is will everyone quit calling people judgemental
I do believe Lucy Hale’s is my favorite too. The cut makes the dress interesting. The color is fun, too. Not the color I’d choose, but it’s still cute.
Loved Zooey Deschanel’s, too. I liked Taylor Swift’s dress – not a big fan of pink, but it’s a light pink, so it’s cool – and if it weren’t for the missing back, it would be great. Would have loved Victoria Justice’s if it weren’t for that pattern. Not a fan of Selena Gomez’s or Miranda Cosgrove’s dresses mostly because Selena’s was pink and Miranda’s was metallic, but I do think that Selena should have worn something that wasn’t as low-cut and Miranda should have worn something a tad longer. I liked the style of Carley Rae Jepsen’s, but yes, the skirt was too short, and would have been so much cuter if it were longer. Liked absolutely nothing about Demi Lovato’s dress. Don’t like anything about Jordin Sparks’ dress, even if she covered up more. As for JoJo, I don’t think the tightness is a huge problem; the skirt is a bit too short, but I think the biggest issue is that she should have dressed up more formally.
Aaaand end of my opinion on the dresses.
Oh, yeah. Maybe the belt thing on Zooey Deschanel’s could have been a different color. I think that would have added a bit of pop to it. Maybe a light purple or something?
to be honest i think they all looked great but, some dresses could have had a few modifications, i don’t we should judge them because they are all great women in my opinion
I don’t think Victoria’s was to short at all and if she felt it was when she sat down she could have taken the longer part and draped it over her legs
I am not sure, but i think that carly rae jepsen has on a short suit, not a skirt. like i mean she has on shorts. but idk so
Zooey has the most modest dress…
I love Taylor Swift, I loved her dress, except for the back of it.
The only outfit I dislike is Demi’s. The other outfits are just fine.
Is it really our place to judge people based on how they dress?
This is a style post, so the judgments are on the clothing. Are they modest and appropriate for the event? The point of the post is that you use the information when selecting clothing for yourself. Or you could just ignore it. It’s your prerogative. exactly!
That’s Demi??
I really really dont agree their dresses arent really that short or showing too much clevege. . . . and their outfits are cute abd demi looked waaay better with brown hair not blonde
i dont think victoria justice or t swiz are too revealing… better than the majority of hollywood.. give them some credit for that!
i think only jordin sparks, jojo and carly are japsens dresses are revealing. the other dresses are fine because it doesnt look trashy or look too short.
i dont like showing cleavage but i do admit to wanting to show of my legs and as a personal rule of thumb…the edge of my skirt is never shorter than the tip of my hands (in normal standing up position).
Taylor Swifts dress was so beautiful, but the back just barely pushes it past the line of modesty. I would be really disappointed if she started to dress sexy or immodest later in her life.
Demi Lovato” Ummm, sorry, but just no.
I liked Zooey Deschanel’s best (Hope I spelled that one right!)
Selena Gomez, okay, but a bit short.
Miranda Cosgrove, ditto
Taylor Swift, loved the front, did NOT LIKE the back.
I loved Taylor Swifts dress, but the back thing was a little weird. Miranda Cosgroves dress was really fun and pretty, but it was quite a low cut skirt. Those and then the number ten in this article are my favorite!
here’s my rating from worst to best- 10. Jordin Sparks
her dress looks to big and she cant fill in the top- 9. Zooey Deschanel, her dress is bland and boring! 8. Lucy Hale, this dress is better but i hate the color and its a little boring.
7. JoJo, her dress is very reaveling but i like the glittery skirt. 6. Demi Lovato, she looks like she is copying one of lady gaga’s dresses Ick! 5. Selena Gomez, next time she should try a patterend dress! 4. Carly Rae Jepsen- i like how it is not boring but i dislike the short skirt. 3. Taylor Swift- i like the cut out sides and the color but i do not like the rest of the design. 2. Victoria Justice- this dress is beautiful and modest! 1. Miranda Cosgrove! i love the shiny look and design!!
i loved victoria justice’s dress but i dont agree that the high part was too short
I love Zooey Deschanel’s dress! it’s a great color and so pretty!
