This Week’s Best of the Web, Featuring Inspirational Teen Journalist Max Jones

Hey girls! Happy (almost) weekend!

One of our goals here at PI is to bring you the best of the best on the web each week, so we’d love to hear what you are interested in knowing about. What do you love and want to see more of? Let us know in the comments!

Inspirational story of the week:

Fashion blogger Justina Sharp recently blew us away when she wrote about one of her top inspirations–16-year-old Max Jones. His name might ring a bell for you, but if not, we’re happy to introduce you to him!

As a 12-year-old living in Florida, aspiring journalist Jones started anchoring an online television news program. With a pointed mission, he became an important team member within a group working to bring captured journalists Lisa Ling and Euna Lee home from North Korea in 2009. It all began when he started a Facebook group called “Detained in North Korea: Journalist Lisa Ling and Euna Lee, please help,” which gained thousands of followers.

In 2011, he made a documentary called Seoul Sisters, covering the serious refugee crisis facing both North and South Korea. He has also created an all-positive news outlet called Felice News, where he spotlights important stories through a “happy” lens–something not often seen in media.

Sharp tracked Jones down on Twitter and asked him for an interview. “That first conversation, I only had five questions for him,” she wrote in her column for The Huffington Post. “We talked for three hours. For days after that I kept having flashbacks to our conversation, thinking about how incredibly well Max proves the point that anyone can do anything if they’re passionate enough, no matter their age. When I asked him about being the youngest person on his team or reporters, he told me that it’s all a matter of respect. If you do your job well, and treat everyone with the respect they deserve, age truly is only a number.”
