TODAY’S HOT TOPIC: NYC Policeman’s “Secret” Act of Giving Goes Viral

Ladies! The most genuine form of kindness is one that takes place when no one’s looking–or at least, when you think no one’s looking.

Check out this amazing story.

The best part is that the officer performed his act of kindness with the belief that no one was watching him. And that’s what Christ wants from all of us. He wants us to give to the needy, but in doing so, He doesn’t want us to announce it to the world.

Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Matthew 6:1-4).

In this case, a witness to the amazing act of kindness took a picture and shared it with others on the NYPD’s Facebook page. I think it’s an awesome example of giving to the needy without expecting recognition or anything else in return.

Giving to the poor is definitely a praiseworthy act. But we shouldn’t do it for praise or reward–we should do it because it’s what Christ would do!

Ladies, does this story inspire you? Have you performed an act of kindness recently?

This is a beautiful story. It’s amazing to know that there are people in all sorts of places that are making a quiet difference. I feel like this is EXACTLY what Christ would do. 🙂

Just this morning when we were going to a mineral convention we saw a homeless man sitting on the side of the road right infringe of the highway. So my mom said she was going to take a detour and turned around and went inside the gas station and came out with waterbottles and snacks and drove over to the man and gave him the bag and got back in the car like nothing happened. I was feeling pretty aggrivated for the past few days but when I saw the person smile and thank us graciously and know my mom touched someones heart, it felt like God was smiling upon us. Afterwards Ive had one of the best days with my mom in a loooooooong time.

I think this is amazing! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are nice people in this world, since we hear mostly stories about people committing crimes and doing violent acts. This story made my day! It’s a reminder that there are truly wonderful, God-loving people out there who put others before themselves.
