U know life is great when u wake up at 9 am DRUNK!!!!! (Rihanna, Twitter).
That was a tweet from Rihanna the other day. She was in London this week for a Kanye West and Jay-Z concert, and she was quick to tweet about the fun that was had.
I find this pretty ironic. God has blessed this woman with an amazing opportunity, and she suggests life is great because she abused alcohol. Not only is she abusing the life God gave her, but she’s abusing her body.
You know it was a good night when u wake up n run to your BFF’s room like…How did I get in my bed? Did I walk? Stumble? Get carried? (Rihanna, Twitter).
This makes me so angry! What is she promoting here? Alcohol abuse–and whatever else she may have consumed the night before–to the point where she can’t remember how her evening ended. She blacked out and is promoting it as “a good night.”
It sounds to me like Rihanna had a terrible night, the kind of night she should be ashamed of and prays never happens again. Why?
- Rihanna’s actions were very dangerous. Getting drunk to the point of unconsciousness can not only lead to alcohol poisoning, but it puts you in a very vulnerable position. Someone could have taken advantage of her, and would she have remembered in the morning?
- It’s also a very irresponsible attitude. She missed her plane and a choreography session, and she glorifies it all like it’s the best thing in the world. This demonstrates how such negative behavior causes a person to stumble.
Tweeting about her actions endorses the behavior and it’s just inexcusable. She has over 19 million followers and I’m pretty confident that many of those are young, impressionable, and likely underage girls.
Whether Rihanna likes it or not, she’s a role model. How can you expect to have fans and not assume those same adoring admirers won’t consider your actions awesome and worthy of emulation? That attitude in itself is immature and irresponsible.
With responses like: “@rihanna glad I’m not the only person who’s woke up still drunk from last night! #YOLO” and “@rihanna it’s even funnier when u DON’T wake up in your bed and u’re like! How did a get here? Where am I? F—!!! Aahahaha,” it’s pretty obvious that her attitude is a common one.
And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).
PI ladies who are of age to drink, please know that Rihanna’s actions are very wrong. Getting drunk is bad enough, but getting drunk to the point of a blackout is so far from cool and fun that it dropped off the radar. There is nothing cool or pleasant about a wasted person, and it’s extremely dangerous behavior.
What do you think about Rihanna’s behavior and how she tweeted it for all her fans to read?
