“Wizards of Waverly Place” Actor Speaks About Virtue and Chastity

TAGS: , , , ,

Ladies, Project Inspired makes a point to promote purity and modesty in many of our posts. We feel society has become so sexualized and that the media plays a huge part in promoting sex and promiscuity.

There are so many celebrities who willingly sexualize themselves, not only as part of their “art,” such as partaking in sexually charged movies, television shows and music videos, but also in their own personal lives, such as dressing very provocatively. However, the good news is that there are still some young stars who are prepared to stand up for virtue and chastity.

One of those celebs is actor David Henrie, who played Justin Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place and Larry on That’s So Raven, among other roles.

Henrie accepted an invitation to speak at the Southwest Catholic Youth Conference. This was an all-day celebration recommended for young adults ages 13 to 25, and its mission was to “awaken and strengthen the Catholic youth of the Southwest by promoting the virtue of chastity, and celebrating the gift of the Catholic faith.” Henrie stated he wanted to be a part of this event because it was a first for Catholic youth.

More than 600 teens were expected to attend the SWCYC. Other event speakers included Catholic author and speaker Jason Evert, recording artist Danielle Rose, author and speaker Chris Stefanick, worship leader Simon Gerard Cordero, Bishop James Wall of the Diocese of Gallup and Bishop Fernando Isern of the Diocese of Pueblo.

We live in a society that is now coming to grips with the consequences of the so called sexual revolution. Chastity is not saying NO to sex, but saying YES to purity. Statistics show us that more and more teens are choosing to save sex until marriage thanks to events like the SWCYC” (Catholic author and speaker Jason Evert).

With both virtue and chastity lacking in Hollywood, I think it’s refreshing when a young celebrity, especially a male celeb, stands up for purity. I’ve always admired Tim Tebow for his Christian values, and especially for his open admittance to remain abstinent until marriage. I pray more stars recognize the benefits of these virtues and openly promote them to our youth.

The Southwest Catholic Youth Conference took place on Saturday, September 15 at the Farmington Civic Center in Farmington, New Mexico.

Ladies, did you attend this event? What kind of Christian event do you wish would come to your area?

That sounds so cool! I, personally, am not Catholic, and do not really have the money to go to an event like this. However, I really think it’s an awesome idea, and I hope that the people who were able to attend were blessed! =)

I love the fact that he is standing up for purity. But other than that, he is not a good role model. He is on wizards of waverly place and was on that so raven which is promoting sorcery, which the Bible says to have nothing to do with. If we are saying he’s a good role model, people will start watching the show and even if it seems innocenct, all it is is a foothold for the devil. Sorry to put a downer on this, but he really shouldn’t be praised as someone who is following God’s word, because he is doing the exact opposite :/

Reading something like this reminds me that we should pray for these young celebrities that they may stay strong in what they believe in.

Wow! It’s so refreshing indeed to see someone my age have such good values. I love how one of the speakers mentioned: “It’s not about saying NO to sex..but saying YES to purity”.. I love it! Amazing post!

I think this is totally amazing, even if he is from shows like wizards of waverly place and thats so raven. Better than the nickalodean show slide or h20 or any of those other ungodly shows, especially since the wizards one is widely accepted as fiction… i think that this is a refreshing spot if light in the dark world of hollywood!!

I never knew that David Henrie was Catholic! I always assumed that he was Jewish or something (unfortunately, I was stereotyping the eyebrows), but I’m so happy to know that one of my favorite actors is a Christian and proud of it! :D
