10 Awesome Country Songs That Glorify God!

Recently I highlighted a song by Brad Paisley and Sara Evans called, New Again, about The Passion. Every time I hear that song I get emotional. We also received an email from a young reader, Autumn, who wrote that Josh Turner’s song, Long Black Train “opened [her] eyes up to God and helped [her] understand that He’s watching.”  Take a listen for yourself.

Unlike Christian music, not all country music is faith-based and devoted to God. But there are some gems out there that praise God and all His goodness. A lot of country music also reflects Christian values. You need to pick and choose your artists, but if you’re looking to expand your music interest without compromising your love for God, consider some country music artists or songs.

Below are my top 10 favorite country songs that glorify God.

    1. New Again – Brad Paisley and Sara Evans

    2. Jesus Take the Wheel – Carrie Underwood

    3. God Must Really Love Me – Craig Morgan

    4. Long Black Train – Josh Turner  (See above)

    5. Believe -Brooks & Dunn

    6. You’re Not My God – Keith Urban

    7. He Ain’t the Leaving Kind – Rascal Flatts

    8. There Will Come a Day – Faith Hill

    9. When I Get Where I’m Going – Brad Paisley with Dolly Parton

    10. Bless the Broken Road – Rascal Flatts

I hope you enjoyed my selections.

      • That is one of my favorite songs, ever! I’ll listen too it in the middle of summer…:P

I also love Dirt Road Prayer by Lauren Alaina!!!!

And I love country music in general, because it seems like there’s a lot of country singers who worship God!

    1. the only song that I have heard before is Jesus Take the Wheel, but I looked up the lyrics for the others and I think they are amazing! A country song that I really like is “Watching You,” by Rodney Atkins. Thank you for everything you do!

    2. ‘The Man I Want to Be’ by Chris Young is basically a prayer to God asking him to make the singer the kind of man he should be. It’s a pretty good country song that I believe glorifies God.

    3. I loved this! Country music is my favorite genre, besides Christian. And I’m so glad you found some country songs that are about God. And Long Black Train is definitely my favorite song, so I’m really glad you posted that one! 🙂

      • There are actually so many more I wish I could have added, but I wanted to pick a top 10. If you take the time to listen to lyrics, you will be surprised at how many country songs glorify God.

      • It’s actually “you’re not my god” with a small “g.” Keith Urban has struggled in the past with alcohol and cocaine addiction. This song is about temptation and he sings that money and drugs are not his gods. The song goes on: “From the cradle to the grave/Temptations all around/But no matter how good the fix/It’s gonna take you down/Now some call it a weakness/Some call it a sin/But it’s all the same behind each game/I see your evil grin/But you’re not my god/And you’re not my friend/You’re not the one that I will walk with in the end/You’re not the truth/You’re a temporary shot/You ruin people’s lives and you don’t give a second thought…” He’s rejecting sin and clearly saying he is choosing God: “You’re not the one that I will walk with in the end.”

    4. I’m ashamed… I am a pastor’s daughter and have been listening to ‘Bless the Broken Road’ since I was eight, and I never even noticed the religious message! It just shows that you have to be able to dig deeper into everything and have God on your mind, I guess…

    5. There are quite a few songs that really get me, being a devoted Christian and a huge Country Music fan… Temporary Home by Carrie Underwood, This Ain’t Nothin’ by Craig Morgan, If Heaven Wasn’t so Far Away by Justin Moore, Homeboy by Eric Church, and Hello World by Lady Antebellum. Also, some cute ones that have the same basic thing but more upbeat and stuff is Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love by Trisha Yearwood and Miranda Lambert’s song, Heart Like Mine.

    6. Who I am- By Jessica Andrews, sure it does flat out talk about God, but she says how shes grateful for looking like her Grandpa and how her family supports her and how shes happy with life, even if it doesn’t go her way and if she doesn’t get to so everything she wants.

    7. as far as rascal flatts go i’d never gotta that bless the broken road had 2 meanings until a few months ago when a group of ladies from my church sang it .i’d always thought it was a marriage song not a song that could either describe that or a relanship with god

      • Does anyone know the name of the country song in which two cowboys go to church on Sunday evening–chorus says something about grabbin a fiddle and a steel guitar–preacher takin off his suit puttin on some cowboy boots? sound familiar?

    8. i met some wonderful people this summer and one of are may songs that remind us of each other is God gave me you by Blake Shelton because in our case it is so true, i also like If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away

    9. ‘Hello World’ by Lady Antebellum. I actually almost cried listening to it…it’s so beautiful, about what’s important in life and surrendering everything to God. Also, Josh Turner has an old one called ‘Me and God’ that’s pretty good, and David Archuleta’s ‘Christmas From the Heart’ is the best!

    10. i absolutely love that you did this! country is by far my favorite genre because of all the songs like this!! and when i get where I’m goin i absolutely adore that song! i heard it for the first time in years and just realized the message then i read this! pretty funny I think! anyways I love this website and all that y’all do!

    11. Country music is my favorite, having grown up listening to Rascal Flatts and Tim McGraw and all them. One song I’m absolutely in love with is “The Man I Want to Be” by Chris Young. I got to see him live in concert last summer and when he performed it, I almost cried. A couple other songs I really love are “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” by Justin Moore and “That Old King James” by Scotty McCreery.
