10 Celebrities Who Openly Proclaim Jesus

Their lives may not be perfect, but these celebrities are a public encouragement to be bold about your faith in Christ, no matter whether it’s accepted by the world around you.

1. Carrie Underwood

This American Idol star and widely known country singer is not only known for her award-winning talent, but also for her popular faith-based songs like “Jesus Take the Wheel.” When she was under heavy criticism, she responded by saying, “I’m not the first person to sing about God, Jesus, faith [or] any of that, and I won’t be the last. And it won’t be the last for me, either. If you don’t like it, change the channel.” Go Carrie! (Source)

2. Denzel Washington

Denzel is a big name on the film scene, having received two Golden Globe Awards and played some of the most memorable characters on screen. What many don’t know is that he’s the son of a Pentecostal preacher and an active member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ. He says, “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit. I know it’s real. I was in the room. My cheeks blew up, I cried like a baby and it scared me to death. It kind of scared me off it. I backed up and went the other direction, to be honest with you. I didn’t know what was going on. It was too strong. It has taken me many years to come back around.” (Source)

3. Tyler Perry

While Tyler Perry is well known for his stage-to-screen dramas and the famous Madea, he’s also very open about his Christian faith on and off the screen. He boldly proclaims, “I am a Christian, I am a believer, and I know had I not been a person of faith, I couldn’t be here in this place, and I wouldn’t be walking the path that I’m on now.” (Source)

4. Justin Bieber

Okay, now before we go throwing stones, yes, Justin Bieber proclaims Jesus and is not ashamed of his faith. In fact, his latest album was banned in the Middle East for “pushing too much Jesus”! In his recent interview with Complex magazine, he states, “I think that people, as soon as they start hearing me saying I’m a Christian, they’re like, ‘Whoa Justin, back up, take a step back.’ Also, I do not want to shove this down anyone’s throat. I just wanna honestly live like Jesus… If you believe it, he died for our sins… We have the greatest healer of all and his name is Jesus Christ. And he really heals. This is it. It’s time that we all share our voice. Whatever you believe. Share it. I’m at a point where I’m not going to hold this in.”

5. Kristin Chenoweth

This talented Broadway star has been featured in big hit musicals like Wicked and popular TV shows like Glee, and actively proclaims her faith. She was raised Southern Baptist and to this day proclaims that she “reads the Bible regularly and prays often.” (Source)

6. Angus T. Jones

The former Two and a Half Men star, co-star to Charlie Sheen, has been openly speaking out about his faith and pursuit of Jesus in recent years. In 2012 he videotaped his testimonies on YouTube for the world to see and denounced his past life in Hollywood. “The name of the game right now is compromise. … According to the Bible, when that happens, we’re no longer standing for anything. We’re no longer on the side of the truth. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump,” Jones said, quoting Galatians 5:9. (Source)

7. Lacy Chabert

You might know her as Gretchen from Mean Girls or from the more recent movie Christian Mingle, but what you may not know is that Lacy is also an active Christian and regular church attender. She says, “Jesus is the center of my life and I give God the glory for everything, for all my success.” (Source)

8. Tim Tebow

You know this list just wouldn’t be complete without the quarterback who has inspired the faith in all of us countless times. He refers to himself as a “Christian who happens to be an athlete” and proclaims, “When your identity is found in Christ, your identity never changes. You are always a child of God.” (source)

9. Nick Jonas

Yes, the Jonas brother! Nick has taken over the music scene with his latest solo album and shares that his belief in God is still very strong. “The other things around it are not as important to me as my relationship with God,” Jonas explained. “I grew up in a church environment, and I’ll always have love for the Church, but what’s important to me now in my life is my relationship with God and that I not be judged and that I not judge.” (Source)

What about Chris Pratt? He said he wouldn’t do any sex/love scenes to stay loyal to his wife and during his wife’s pregnancy, I guess it was a hard time, but they came through it and he said it was because of Jesus and that’s what made him a believer. He had an epiphany.

Nick Jonas surprised me! I knew he used to wear a promise ring, but when he took it off, I thought he stopped believing in God. (I know that you don’t have to wear a promise ring to believe in God, but I thought that Hollywood had gotten to his head.) I know of a few other celebrities that are open about their faith in Jesus that aren’t on this list. Scotty McCreery (country singer), Adam Wainwright (St. Louis Cardinals pitcher), Matt Holliday (St. Louis Cardinals outfielder) Steve Cishek (St. Louis Cardinals pitcher), Johnny Hekker (St. Louis Rams punter), the Robertson family (“Duck Dynasty”) and Raelynn (country singer) just to name a few! 🙂 God bless y’all!

I’m glad to know Nick Jonas is still a strong believer. I really liked the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock and CR 2 and I think they have great voices. I was a little bummed when I saw/heard Nick sing New Year’s Eve 2015, so it is great to find out he hasn’t left the faith. I hope his brothers are the same.
