    1. This is the second article I have wandered across today denouncing ‘following your heart’. What is wrong with following your heart? I don’t normally put much stock in the statement because of its vagueness, but it seems innocent. Why is the heart ‘deceitful above all things?’ What do Christians have against the cardiovascular system (sic) or following your gut?

      • Hi 🙂 That’s a great question! I’m no expert, but this is from Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (KJV) Basically when Christians object to the phrase “follow your heart,” it’s not about more general things like pursuing a career that you love, etc. In stuff like that, you can pretty much do what you want as long as it’s morally good and you haven’t been led to do something else by God. It’s more about relying on objective standards (the Bible) rather than your own emotions to assess situations. Basically that emotions are subjective and you can’t always trust that what you feel is right.
