The reviews are in and Switched is a must-see movie for fall! This film is full of laughs and Freaky Friday-esque fun. But it also features life lessons that everyone, no matter your age, needs to hear.
When Cassandra Evans and Katie Sharp trade places, we see that things aren’t always what they seem. And the same is true in life for all of us! Switched features some important lessons about bullying, the pressures of social media and showing the love of Christ to other people – even when they’re different from us.
Here are the most important lessons you’ll learn when you watch Switched.
In the movie, Cassandra wants more than anything to be popular. She’s a little awkward and definitely not one of the cool kids in her school. After an embarrassing incident, Cassandra prays her nemesis Katie Sharp would know what it’s like to walk a day in her shoes. The crazy part? It actually happens! Yet when Cassandra enters Katie’s life, she realizes that being the most popular girl in school isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The grass is not always greener on the other side and that’s true no matter how many social media followers someone has or how popular they are. You might as well love the life you’ve been given because God created it just for you!
We should aim to reflect Christ’s love in everything we do.
The movie shares a powerful message about the importance of kindness and “leading with love” in our interactions with one other. When Cassandra deals with bullying, she has the opportunity to choose how she reacts. Meanwhile, Katie faces a lot of pressure from her parents, but she gets to choose how she treats other people. Through the switch-up, both girls realize how important it is to love your neighbor because you never know what they might be walking through! Also, we can each show love to the people around us who don’t deserve it because we were loved when we didn’t deserve it! Let’s all be a little kinder to each other, no matter how different we might be.
3. Social media does not alway show the full story.
In the movie, Katie Sharp is known for her huge social media following, but keeping up that perfect persona is actually taking over her entire life. Katie’s popularity centers around bullying others and in a way, she is being bullied by her own parents to keep up her perfect appearance online. When the girls switch places, Cassandra realizes the life of a social media queen bee/influencer isn’t exactly what it seems. Watching Switched is a great reminder that social media is not always the full story.
