Hello Project Inspired girls! My name is Natalie and I have a blog online that I use to share modest outfits for girls. Well, the other day, Nicole looked at some of the outfits and she asked me to write an article on modest clothing for girls! Here goes nothing!
I know how hard it is in this day and age to wear modest and respectable clothing. In all honesty, I used to wear some very immodest clothing myself. It wasn’t until about January of last year that I found Christ and have set it upon myself to honor God and share His Word with the world around me.
So why dress modestly? Now, this is a question that can be interpreted and answered in many ways. I believe that the simplest answer lies within 1 Corinthians.
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” ~ 1 Cor. 6:19-20
“And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty” ~ 1 Cor. 12:23
Another way to look at the concept of modesty is like this: would God want us to wear this? Would He think that your heart is pure? Are you being Godly in your actions, words and the outfits you wear? If you have to think about either of these for a split second, I would suggest changing your outfit.
My personal opinion on clothes is this: keep it cute, keep it simple and make it modest. You can really wear anything you want; sometimes you just have to make a few modifications to it. So say you have a cute mid-thigh length dress and it has a respectable neckline, but it has spaghetti straps. What do you do? Add a small sweater. Is it warm? Try a cropped short-sleeved sweater. Is it chilly out? Wear a thicker, long sweater for a modest look.
I don’t know where you live, but here in Virginia of the United States, it’s currently cold and slightly snowy! So here are some adorable and modest winter outfits!
A simple sweater dress that comes to the knees and has a modest neckline and sleeves is a great and comfy solution! If it is cold out or you don’t feel comfortable in just a dress, try putting a pair of leggings on underneath. Last, a pair of cute ankle boots to finish off the outfit!
Sometimes a pair of your favorite jeans and soft top are the way to go. When it comes to jeans, make sure that they’re not too tight. At the same time, I would say make sure that the jeans aren’t too loose and baggy either; that can look sort of unfashionable. A simple top that doesn’t reveal much is always in style. I personally love the ¾ sleeves! When it comes to shoes; always go for comfort! Simple slip-ons are a great choice for any outfit.
Winter is a very popular season for going to school dances or plays at the theater. Take a beautiful and modest dress and add a body wrap/shawl to stay warm! If you’re going to be walking around town, wear shoes that are comfortable but cute!
Now we all know the best part of winter- PAJAMAS! Whether it’s a movie night with the girls, a sleepover or a night by yourself cuddled up with your Bible and a warm cup of tea, you still want to be modest. I say your favorite pair of lounge pants, a tank top, a thin long-sleeved shirt and/or sweatshirt, and a pair of comfy slippers are the best way to spend a night (or if you’re like me, an entire weekend!).
I love Kohl’s, Target and JC Penney! All three have really cute and modest clothing for a really good price! My other little secret: T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. They have designer clothes for such a great price. A few years ago, I had been shopping at the mall with my friend and American Eagle had a really cute blue sweater. I checked the price…it was $65! Later that week, my mom and I went to T.J. Maxx and I found the same sweater for $18! Who doesn’t love those kind of savings?
Thank you all so much for reading my article and a special thank you to the Project Inspired Team for giving me this opportunity! I hope that this has helped to show you how to create cute and modest outfits! If you want to check out some of the other stuff on my blog, feel free to follow me!
Much love and many prayers,
