    4 Things You HAVE to Stop Thinking About Yourself

    Let’s face it: Sometimes our worst enemy is ourselves. We let negative thoughts bully our mind in ways that would never be acceptable if we heard someone say them out loud. The truth is we know we have an enemy and his first aim is always our thoughts, because our mind is the command center that guides our lives. If he can get to our thoughts, he can get to our lives.

    However, we don’t have to accept every thought that pops into our head just because it exists. The real battle is knowing what to reject and what to embrace. Here are a few recurring thoughts that should definitely be rejected each and every time you think them.

     

    1. You have to stop thinking that you’re not _____ enough. 

    Whether we think we’re not smart enough, strong enough, skilled enough or capable enough, we could go on and on with the constant lack of ourselves that we battle with in this world. When we think this way, we start making ourselves smaller and smaller and start limiting our purpose in the world. The beautiful thing is that when we have God, we are enough. I don’t say that in some corny, cliché Christian way. What I mean is that God is constantly adding his super to our natural, so our abilities are not just based on us, but on what He can do. His strength shines through our weakness so we are able to do what seems impossible to us and He can get the glory in the midst of it. Not only that, but God called you into purpose fully knowing your failings and shortcomings. He has already taken your mistakes and insecurities into account and still plans on fully using you because His purpose is greater than your flaws. So the next time you think you’re not ____ enough, realize you are perfectly designed for the purpose God has for you.

     

    2. You have to stop thinking you’ll be stuck in your situation forever. 

    Sometimes we confuse a season for a lifetime. We start projecting the troubles we’re facing now into our future as if life will continue on forever this way. We feel like our heart will never heal or we’ll never get out of this seemingly impossible circumstance. However, the truth is even your trials have an expiration date. It’s unrealistic to trap yourself this way because life is always changing and you’re constantly growing with it. Instead of making your struggle your identity, start focusing on how you can grow from this life lesson.

     

    3. You have to stop thinking that God can’t use you. 

    Sometimes it looks like everyone else is doing well at this “Christian” and “ministry” thing but us. We’re constantly failing Him, so how could we be of any use? That’s what we tend to think, right? When we see the types of people God chose in the Bible, sometimes we wonder if He specifically looked for the most unqualified person on the Earth! I mean, think about it: Peter had a temper. David had an affair. Noah got drunk. Gideon was insecure. Moses stuttered. Lazarus was dead. The list literally goes on and on. If you feel like it’s impossible for God to use you, you’re in good company—because that probably makes you the perfect person to be used by God!

     

    4. You have to stop thinking that you’re not genuinely lovable.

    Many of us have been hurt and damaged over and over again to the point where we don’t know what the safety of love should look like. But God is challenging us to find this safety in Him, maybe for the first time EVER, and to be vulnerable enough to trust that His love is the REAL THING. We need to trust that this grace is sufficient to cover, protect, provide and look out for us. In fact, the Word says He IS love. Just because people in their human limitations weren’t able to love you in the way you should have been doesn’t mean that you are unlovable—because God made you worthy of perfect love.
