Christmas Movies You (And We!) Love

As you girls well know, we love a good movie. Really, who doesn’t!? One of the best things about the holiday season is all of the special things that come along with it—peppermint mochas, carols and Christmas music, fun decor—and that includes Christmas movies! There are the old classics like It’s a Wonderful Life and the newer favorites like Elf, and then, of course, the new releases we check out every year at the movie theater and at home on TV. There are lots of great flicks to choose from, but today we’ve narrowed them down to our five favorites. We decided on our top picks by looking back at past surveys, roundups and comments from you girls over the last few holiday seasons and hope you’ll spot your favorites among the mix!

HurricaneMurphGirl wrote: “My favorite Christmas movie is definitely A Charlie Brown Christmas. I love how Charlie Brown is upset that Christmas has become so commercialized, and is confused as to what it’s all about. And then Linus helps him to see what Christmas is all about in a very touching scene.”

Many other PI Girls agreed, and the film landed in our top five in the holiday movie poll.

The second-place winner in our holiday movie poll, this classic film appears often on your lists. It also features one of the most famous lines ever from a Christmas movie. Do you know what it is?

The fourth-place winner in our holiday movie poll, this is another classic film that remains a popular traditional choice for repeat visits. Here’s what some of you had to say about it:

White Christmas is my favorite, definitely. I love Bing Crosby’s voice and Danny Kaye’s character is absolutely hilarious. The dancing is incredible as well.” —ForHim15

“Every year I watch White Christmas almost every day in December!” —AEC1940s

“My favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas. It’s a family tradition to watch it! Plus, the dancing is awesome!” —JustaDreamer

“I LOVE WHITE CHRISTMAS!!! Every year my family watches it after decorating our Christmas tree!! I LOVE the dancing!!!” —leahgrace99

This hilarious holiday film starring Will Ferrell won our holiday movie poll by a landslide 26 percent of the votes. Here’s what some of you girls had to say:

Elf is my absolute favorite! I had pneumonia last year right before Christmas and was given bed-rest orders and I literally watched that movie probably 10+ times.” —Sydney_Andrews

“I love the movie Elf. It’s so funny, and it’s a pretty clean movie.” —vanilla

Elf is my all-time fav!” —Emmaaaa

T.M. wrote: “Based on the book written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg, this movie tells the story of a young boy who struggles with his belief in Santa Claus. I believe that the story has a deeper Christian meaning, though. I see Santa, the conductor, and the hobo ghost as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I see the struggle to ‘believe in Santa’ as a struggle of faith in God. I feel that there are many allegorical aspects in this movie that reflect Christianity. I don’t expect younger viewers to see this, but even they will enjoy this movie.”

This excellent flick also got a lot of votes from you in our movie poll, landing in the third spot overall!

    1. Honestly, please don’t kill me, I’ve never seen It’s a Wonderful Life, and I’ve never heard of White Christmas, but I love Charlie Brown Christmas and Polar Express. Please don’t kill me for this either, but I don’t like Elf very much. My favorite is Polar Express. I’m sure that’s the most popular Christmas movie of all time.

    2. I love White Christmas and Holiday Inn too! Probably my favorite modern Christmas movie is “Mary Christmas”. It is really good. I’ve only seen It’s A Wonderful Life once (I want to see it again though), but is the line “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings?”

    3. My family and I really like all of these! My all-time favorite is The Muppet’s Christmas Carol. It’s based on the classic tale practically everyone knows, with all the emotions and the stirring, heartwarming conclusion…combined with the funny antics of the Muppets, catchy songs and lots of general hilarity. It’s a family favorite in my house. 🙂
