PI Girls, as you know, I love reading God’s Word and I will be contributing a couple of articles a month on a “Bible study” topic for you. My prayer is that these pieces will deepen your faith, stir a hunger for more truth and spark an interest in other facets of your relationship with Christ.
Now that 2014 is here, I want to give the PI community some scriptures to encourage you in the New Year! These scriptures will have the theme of “NEW” and the “PLANS” for our lives.
Be encouraged, for the best is yet to come. As believers we know that Jesus makes all things new, and that we can start afresh in the new year believing in God for GREAT things ahead!
1. Embrace the new year.
“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything NEW!” —Revelation 21:5
No matter what you have done in your life, Christ can cover your sins with the blood that was shed on Calvary. Jesus paid the price for you, me and those who believe He is the Son of the living God. If you call on His name and repent (turn from your sins), then God can forgive you because Jesus Christ, the Messiah, stands in your place. What an amazing gift!
2. You are forgiven.
The prophet Isaiah wrote about forgiveness in chapter 1, verse 18, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”
3. In Christ you are new.
When we receive Jesus as the Messiah and the King (Lord) of our lives, and when we are living a godly life, our lives begin to change. Obviously this is a process and takes time to plant, water and grow, but we WILL be changed as we seek God. The Holy Bible tells us that we are made new creations through Christ (and the finished work on the cross). When we receive the Holy Spirit we will WANT to honor God because God’s love is so massive we’ll WANT to obey Him! When I rededicated my life to the Lord as a more mature believer, I totally experienced this!
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” —2 Corinthians 5:17
4. Know that God has great plans for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 is a popular scripture and is very uplifting and encouraging! Let us stand on the truth even when we hear LIES that we aren’t good enough, or when we doubt our future! Let us trust in the one who holds the world in His hands and who LOVES you so much! Don’t give up, and TRUST God! He is so good and He has great plans in store for you!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans for a hope and a future.”
5. God tells us not to fear.
King David the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 27:1 about not fearing, and KNOWING who God is and that He is with us. He wrote that anyone who comes against the Lord’s people will stumble and fall, and when the armies of the enemy came, David told himself he would remain confident in God! This is one of my favorite verses.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
PI Girls, remember in the New Year to write down these scriptures as a reminder of how SPECIAL you are! You can print these, too, and put them in your binder or on your mirror/nightstand. We love you!
